Drivable cars (admin only for now)
In an unexpected twist to his work on mountables - which previously just focused on sitting in chairs - Helk has started playing with the functionality of driving cars in Rust. As of now, these vehicles don’t spawn around the map and are not part of vanilla gameplay.
That said, if an admin types ‘spawn sedan’ in console, a rusty, four-door ride will appear. Walk up to the driver side door, press 'E', and you will find yourself sitting behind the wheel. The controls for driving are pretty intuitive - WASD will propel you in the direction you desire.
Will driving cars become accessible to every Tom, Dick, and Newman? It likely will be at some point in the future - but not this week, and not how they are currently implemented. Helk told me they are mainly just for fucking around at the moment.
Why don't you have a seat over there?
A new form of transportation wasn't the only thing Helk has been working on this week; he has also polished off the functionality for sitting in chairs. After almost making it in last week, chair sitting was removed due to potential exploits. Kinks now worked out, you can rest easy knowing you'll be able to rest easy in a chair once this update hits.
To sit in a chair, walk up to it and press ‘E’. Sitting provides 100% comfort and lets you look around freely. To stand up, simply press spacebar.
Grass updates
You'll notice some shifts to the visuals of foliage after the update as Diogo has done a lot of work on overgrowth and grass. Most notable, much of the grass is shorter and a bit more sparsely laid out.
New EAC screen
Launching the game will greet you with a different EAC loading screen. This also comes with some updates to the EAC SDK.
Updated player models? Not yet...
The next iteration of player models (which, like chair sitting, was taken out last week right before the update) have not yet made it in. That means we'll likely have to wait another week at least for them to arrive.
Other stuff
- Dropped maps now despawn in 30 seconds (exploit fix)
- Fixed thrown weapons and arrows disappearing on impact when hitting entities
- Flashlight attachment no longer shows gun shadows all over the place
- Eating raw fish no longer makes the player puke
- Added Shadow Quality slider to Graphics menu
- Added graphics.shadowquality convar; 0 = low / hard, 1 = med / soft, 2 = high / soft+penumbra
- Progress on new snow biome (likely coming in October)
- More progress on the new arm cleanup
Max pop of Main
As always, we like to push limits of the game and performance by having as many slots as possible in our main servers. After running at 450 for the past two weeks, we’ve decided to lower the max pop to 400 in the interest of performance. Expect more shifts in slot counts in the future as performance dictates.
King of the hill event: Saturday @ 4pm EST
We are running a new event this Saturday at 4 PM Eastern. Similar to D-Day event the other month, this affair will include two teams: attackers and defenders. Check back here or on @Rustafied for more info as we get closer to Saturday.
