1:06pm EST - The update is still several hours away, however, the forced wipe has already occurred on the staging branch so our dev server has wiped and updated. Also, check out the exciting announcement I just added below!
1:42am EST - There is an update due out today and, given it’s the first Thursday of the month, a map wipe will be forced on all servers when it goes live (no forced blueprint wipe in store). Although there wasn’t a ton of forward facing progress this week, there are some exciting things in store.
It appears the update will launch around normal time (4-6pm EST) and, as always, our live update stream will start at 3pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.
Announcing: Rust Players Slack
Hardly a day goes by where I don’t see someone asking if anyone wants to team up. It’s no secret Rust gameplay is best when in a group, but it can be hard to find reliable people to team up with. Therefore, I’m trying something new: Rust Players Slack.
This new community aims to connect like-minded Rust players - providing an outlet to create alliances on any server in the game. If you’re interested, click the button below to learn more.
Leveling system progress
Garry and Helk have been working on one of the biggest changes in the history of Rust, the leveling system - a huge undertaking which is still weeks away from going live.
Given this, I wouldn’t be surprised if the next few updates are a bit light on new content. Check out the devblog for more details on the progress and keep an eye here over the next few weeks for more in depth coverage on this game changer.
Ladder hatch
The most exciting addition to building in a while is in: the ladder hatch. Providing a new way to go between levels, this retractable hatch can be locked and has a cool animation when the ladder comes down.
Unfortunately, given it can be destroyed with 1 C4, it’s not the most secure way to block off your levels. I’d be happy to pay a bit more to have withstand 2 charges. That said, it is the first iteration, so we’ll likely see some different tier hatches in the future. Regardless, it protects well against melee tools, doesn’t cost that much, and provides new versatility in base design.

Floor frames
Joining the wall frames implemented last week, floor frames have been added to the building plan. A prerequisite to the new hatch and grill building parts, you’ll want to lay down and upgrade one of these bad boys prior to placing anything on it. Upgrade costs can be found here.
Floor grill
A bit less exciting - but cool nonetheless - the floor grill has been added. A substitute for standard floors, this grated piece of metal can be seen through, however, can’t be looted or shot through. Also, as can be expected, 1 C4 will blow it away.

Linux server progress
Garry has been working with a group of server owners to fix issues with the currently unsupported linux Rust server. Although some issues were tackled, deploying a Rust server on Linux is still a dicey bet. Unfortunately, the biggest pitfall at the moment appears to be an issue with steam, so it's unknown when this situation will be improved.
Flamethrower: Not yet
Yesterday, we saw an exciting commit from Tom with some progress on the new flamethrower. Don’t expect to see it this week though, there is more work needed prior to it entering the game.
Various stuff
The team also complete a bunch of miscellaneous things. Some highlights include:
- Improved server stability with loading save games
- Vram optimization with the skybox
- Improved artwork for the dungeons
- Sounds for new building frame pieces
- Fixed bug where you were unable to replace triangle foundation when built in certain way
- Fixed bug where you were unable to build foundation steps going up from triangle foundation
Rustafied - Reserved launch party!
Our brand new, Rustafied - Reserved server officially launches today! With reserved slots almost sold out, we’ve got a great group of people ready to go. I’ll be streaming some gameplay from here immediately after the update goes live. A huge thank you to all those who helped test and support the server this week!
