Time for a fresh start!
4:45pm EST - The update and devblog are out. All of our servers have been updated and wiped. Great stream all! Thanks for helping us reach our new record of over 3,000 viewers at once!
3:00pm EST - Our update stream is live! Check it out on twitch.tv/rustafied
2:06pm EST - The update has not been released yet and playrust.com is temporarily down (so no devblog as of now). Stay posted...
10:50am EST - The first update of the year will go live in a couple hours, providing players with a clean slate for the new year. Along with the expected map wipe, a blueprint wipe has just been announced. According to the Rust twitter, this update is expected to hit around 7pm GMT (2pm EST). Let’s get into it...
Blueprint wipe
That’s right, a blueprint wipe will be forced with this update. Although many people welcome this, it did come as a surprise to many, especially considering just 3 days ago Garry said BP’s weren’t wiping. I wasn’t expecting a forced blueprint wipe till the first iteration of the XP system was added, but hey, a fresh start for the new year is nice...
Procgen 11.1
Get ready for some landscape changes as the next iteration of the procedural map generation system is in. Although there aren’t a ton of shifts to the overall topology or layout of the maps - and the snow biome is still MIA - this version does feature some great looking new rocks. It also hosts a slew of bug fixes, which is always nice. See more pictures in my post from yesterday.
Lazy aim is gone
Gun fights - and specifically hip shooting - are going to feel a lot different after this update hits given lazy aim has been disabled. For those of you who don’t know what lazy aim is, it’s when subtle mouse movements slightly move the barrel of the gun without shifting your entire screen.
Voice changes
Garry has tweaked the way voice chat works. Gone are the little icons on the bottom left of the HUD; added is a new 'local player voice indicator.' More on this as it hits the development branch.
Auto mute / kicking of chat spammers
Garry added the boilerplate for automatically muting and kicking chat spammers. I’m not clear if this will be turned on when the update goes live, however, it’s definitely a very welcomed feature.
New throwables
Following in the footsteps of most tools and melee weapons, the mace, longsword, and salvaged cleaver can now be thrown… Nice!
Christmas is over
The Christmas event added for the holidays has been removed from the event schedule. Also, the event schedule has been reorganized, making it easier for new events to be added in the future.
Other things
- New animations for waking up and coming out of the wounded state
- The development branch is now called 'staging.' You'll need to re-opt your client in order to join. Also, if running a dev server, you'll need to change your update command:
+app_update 258550 -beta staging - Bear meat is cookable
- A bunch of exploit fixes (see devblog)
- The ingame store has been removed, now opens in a steam browser window.
