It's update time!
10:00pm EST - Biggest point of contention after this update: Building placement is fucked. Foundation / floor placement requires you to move all over, you can't place things near each other, no more sleeping bags / furnaces / boxes close together, and good luck finishing parts of your base if you placed any deployables nearby. Thankfully, I talked to Andre and he confirmed most of these things are unintentional and will work on some fixes in the morning. In the mean time, prepare to be frustrated whilst building.
5:30pm EST - The update and devblog are out!
3:00pm EST - The update stream is live! twitch.tv/rustafied
2:45pm EST - The update stream goes live in 15! twitch.tv/rustafied
2:30pm EST - Some small changes to land mines: You can now disarm one, even if you didn't place it. This'll also put that land mine in your inventory.
Edit: You can only disarm mines if it's been activated, and there is a chance it'll explode when you do. So if you step on a mine and don't step off of it, another player can try to disarm it. If they do successfully, then they get the mine.
1:42pm EST - We just updated our dev branch server to the latest version. If you want to test everything out prior to the update fully launching, opt your client into the development branch and look for us on the official list.
1:00pm EST - It's that day again, time for an update! Between Garry still being on vacation and Helk keeping secrets, this hasn't been the most robust week as far as commits are concerned. That said, we have 2 awesome new melee weapons, some sorely needed performance enhancements, and various other changes. This update will not force a wipe, however, server owners may wipe at their discretion (see Rustafied wipe status at the bottom of this post).
As usual, our live update stream will start at 3 PM Eastern. We'll show off what's new, answer questions, and track the launch of the update (likely due out between 4pm and 6pm EST). Stay tuned to @Rustafied for updates throughout the day. Let's get into it…
Machete
First of the new melee weapons: the machete is described as, “a brutal weapon with good range.” A non-default blueprint, you'll have to find or research one before you can craft it. Not only great for slicing Newmans, it yields 15 wood per hit on trees. Here are some more details:
Cost
100 wood
75 metal frags
Crafting time
30 seconds
Damage per body hit (no armor)
28 damage dealt
24% bleed
Head hit (no armor)
~70 damage dealt
Salvaged sword
Second, we have the salvaged sword. This self-described two-handed weapon (currently still being held in one hand) is made from a filed down wrench, and features great durability and good damage. Also a non-default blueprint, you won't be able to craft this from the get-go. Here are some details:
Cost
25 cloth
100 metal frags
Crafting time
30 seconds
Damage per body hit (no armor)
50 damage dealt
44% bleed
Head hit (no armor)
You dead.
Secrets afoot
Many commits from Helk this week have remained behind closed doors as he toils away on some secret functionality. Although I have been privy to some sneak peaks, I am sworn to secrecy. I am confident in saying two things: First of all, this secret looks pretty fucking sweet. Second, it's bound to leave some people disappointed because it isn't horses shooting rainbows out of their ass (or whatever it is they were expecting/hoping it would be). One thing's for sure, we will all know what it is soon enough (although sources tell me it may not make an appearance until tomorrow).
New decal system
Andre has started working on a new, more efficient decal system. So far it appears the decals related to bullets and blood have been switched over. Along with making the blood look darker and a bit more natural, this will hopefully offer less FPS drops during gunfights.
Improved ambient sounds
Alex has been doing some work on ambient sounds, especially in relation to weather. He's added sounds for when rain hits certain objects along with adjusting the ambient volume appropriately when you're inside.
Survey charge changes
Some changes to the survey charges have made their way in. Not only does it have a nifty new model and icon, you can throw it farther and it’s less likely to slide down a hill.
Cost / damage changes
Helk has tweaked the cost of some items. First, the salvaged ice pick has been made a bit more affordable, now costing 25 cloth and 150 metal fragments. In addition to this, the bone knife now takes less cloth and the bone club does more damage. Topping it all off, the stone spear has some cost changes...
Spear raiding nerfed
People have been exploiting a bug in the spear crafting system, allowing them to get a healthy new wood spear by crafting then cancelling a stone spear. This especially has come in handy when knocking down building blocks. Putting an end to this, Helk has changed it so the stone spear requires 300 wood instead of a wood spear.
Other things:
- A ton of various graphical tweaks / enhancements from Diogo
- Land mines on nodes will blow if that node gets harvested
- Cupboards and repair benches have properly rotated placement guides
- New animations from Minh for crouched walking and getting hit with snap traps
- High quality bloom and lens dirt actually toggle off when switched in the F2 menu
- Fixes to Craggy Island map along with a test cave
- Sandbag barricade has been lowered slightly
- Various fixes for building inside caves
Rustafied server wipes
Only our main, 200 slot server will wipe this week. All of our other servers have a low enough entity count that they will last at least through next week (maybe longer). No BP’s will be wiped.
