Heading into the weekend strong
4:20pm EST - As we head into a Rust-filled weekend, a hotfix has been released which put building back to a workable state. Here’s a bit more info...
Building is fixed!
After the update yesterday, it became abundantly clear that building was pretty fucked. Placement of floors / foundations was difficult (or impossible) and deployables (storage boxes, furnaces, etc.) had to be placed very far apart. This was all an unintended side effect of some changes to the building system aimed at stopping people from building blocks inside themselves or others (i.e. block towers).
Thankfully, a hotfix came out a couple hours ago which has remedied the situation. Although the build system is still not completely free of wonkiness, many issues with block placement have been fixed and deployables are now able to be placed close together again. A big thanks to Helk and Andre for the quick fixes!
Garry is back!
That’s right, our long lost leader has returned from his vacation, hopefully well rested and ready to crank out code. I believe I speak for all Rust players when I say: It’s great to have you back, Garry.
Where the fuck is that big secret?!
I know, I know, the big secret which has been all the buzz this week has not been revealed. I spoke with Helk about it and, unfortunately, it’s simply not ready to go yet. Expect this to come next week.
Server FPS woes
Since the update yesterday, multiple server owners are reporting sporadic and long periods of very low server FPS (in the 2 - 5 realm). We've been experiencing this ourselves, primarily on our main 200 slot server. The result is delayed actions on the client end and jerky player movements.
This has been reported to Garry (did I mention? Welcome back!) and hopefully the cause will be tracked down shortly. In the mean time, a server restart does appear to fix the issue temporarily.
Door fuckery
Another nuisance introduced with yesterday's update is with regards to doors: they now push you back instead of forward when you close them while in the doorway. This is likely related to the building changes (and possible to block against the exploit allowing people into rocks). The issue has been reported and we'll hopefully see a resolution soon. Till then, make sure you're all the way through the door before trying to close it.
