It's update time, lets do this!!

7:45pm EST - Hapis Island is cool and all but the lack of rad town loot and barrels really sucks. By the way, for all those wondering, we don't have updated maps for this new terrain yet, hope to post them soon.

5:34pm EST - Devblog just came out! http://playrust.com/devblog-58/

5:30pm EST - Some people were asking how to host the Hapis level on their server so I added directions below under "Hapis island."

5:15pm EST - Our servers have been updated and restarted. All have been wiped (even dev, sorry another was forced). Hapis Island server is now live!

5:09pm EST - Client / server update just hit! Updating servers now. Downtime ~ 2 minutes.

5:00pm EST - No word from Garry yet... Jenkins is doing a debug client upload now, they might be waiting for that to finish before letting the patch fly. Or, we're just waiting on the Steam CDN propagate.

4:45pm EST - Jenkins has finished but no sign of the patch being applied yet. Will keep you posted as I know more...

4:30pm EST - Jenkins is finally done, should be any minute now...

4:10pm EST - Fuck, Jenkins, could you go any slower?!

3:38pm EST - Just got word from Garry, he's pushing the patch shortly (once Jenkins finishes his thing). There is a bug with code locks on sheet metal (they don't show on one side). Expect a small, client hotfix for this shortly after the main update hits.

3:07pm EST - Some builds running through Jenkins now. Maps have not merged in yet so we've probably got another hour or two before the update hits.

2:15pm EST - Helk has improved some of the gun aiming dynamics. Mainly, the models wiggle a lot less now! Also, the revolver fire animation has been toned down. Here's a quick video:

12:50pm EST - The day ticks along and the team continues committing fixes in preparation for the impending update. We're still probably a couple hours away (they've been launching around 4 to 5pm EST (8 to 9pm GMT) lately. Here's a highlight of some things from the past couple hours:

  • Helk started on the research table! Will it make it in this week? Strikes me as a stretch...
  • The new code lock is no longer minuscule; now it's bordering on comically large:
  • Andre tweaked the big mountain a bit (which fucked up the terrain, needed to wipe dev again, sorry).

1:50am EST - Today is the day. Improved terrain and potential in game map to help navigate. We also have a new level to play around with and maybe even some new ways to blow shit up. The update is still hours away and much is still up in the air.

One thing is clear, it will force a wipe across all servers (blueprints will not wipe unless the server admin decides to and servers already on the dev branch may not need to wipe). As always, stay tuned here and @Rustafied for updates throughout the day. In the mean time, here’s what the team has been cooking up this week...

Hapis island

The new, legacy inspired terrain is now happily dubbed, "HapisIsland." It doesn't resemble the legacy terrain in the slightest, but it is pretty to look at (and pulls a great FPS too). The biggest concern isn't looks, however, it’s resources.

From nodes to rads, shit seems scarce at the moment. This will surely be improved on in the near future, but the question remains, is it currently worth playing? We’re looking to find out when it officially goes live later today on our new, "Hapis" (whatever the fuck that means) server. In the mean time, check out these pictures if you haven't already.

How to switch your server to Hapis:

In your server start line, remove the worldsize and seed definitions. Then, add: +server.level "HapisIsland"

Boom, you're all set.

Terrain improvements

Along with the new map, the good ole’ procedural generator has had some tinkering and the results, although not overwhelmingly apparent at first, are very pleasant. Hats off to Andre and Petur for their continued efforts at unsucking the environment.

In game map

Garry has been toiling away on an idea for craftable, in game maps. It looks like he may just be on to something given this promising screenshot he posted to our server owner community:

Can you mark your own pointers? Is it like a fog of war? Can I wipe my ass with it? All these things remain to be seen. At this point, all we know (which is still subject to change) is it's a default blueprint and costs 10 paper (1000 wood) to craft. Don’t get your hopes up though, it may not even make it in this week. One thing's for sure, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for that “merge into /main from /main/maps” commit).

Update note: Did not make it in this week, expect to see it next week.

Life info screen

A new glimpse at your life once you die, this “Life info” screen is a first iteration at showing you what you did while you were alive. And, most important: who killed you.

Rocket launcher tuning

Helk fine-tuned the rocket launcher a bit this week

  • It no longer comes with 1 rocket when crafted
  • Is now more accurate (aim cone reduced)
  • First person animations have been improved (no more rocket-ass in your face)
  • The smoke trail has been cleaned up

Admin god / cosmetic surgeon

Admin’s have some new powers this week. Not only can they now be invincible (“god 1” in console), they can also change appearance with 3 new commands:

  • skincol - Color of your skin
  • skintex - Texture of your skin (hard to notice changes on this one)
  • skinmesh - Changes your head / face model

Other things:

  • Signs are no longer disappearing
  • New code lock model (still same cost and functionality, just a visual change)
  • Improved aiming down sight (much less model wiggling!)
  • Improved animal animations and movement
  • Grenades look better and are more effective
  • Beancan grenade has been rigged up but not implemented (didn't make it)
  • Sub machine gun  - also rigged up but not implemented yet (didn't make it)
  • Notes (similar to the map, but for writing shit down - also didn't make it)

Raid Short: The Offer

A couple members of our community sent us some unique footage from both sides of a raid. Our resident administrator and head of media, SourceDogma, spliced the video and produced this short clip for your viewing pleasure...

I'm loving this in game footage. If you play on our server and are interested in helping us produce cool clips, or just want us to film an epic raid, email media@rustafied.com.
