Remove locks, signs, heat waves and water footsteps.
4:38pm EST - A new cool feature loved by pinky fingers around the world: Once you've been sprinting for 2 seconds, you can let go of the sprint key and you'll keep running.
3:00pm EST - We are one day away from the update and devblog and this week has been shrouded in mystery. With ambiguous commits to a deploytosocket branch, and today, mentions of signs being added. Before we get into that, Helk has just done a solid for homeowners...
Remove locks
Ever since the demolish ability has been removed from hammers, upgrading from a key lock to a code lock has been infeasible at best. Helk has remedied the situation today by allowing unlocked locks to be removed from doors. Now, it is easy to start with a key lock then upgrade to code once you have the resources, just make sure you keep track of your key in the mean time!
Signs?!
There have been several commits to the main branch today which reference signs. Are these signs people can craft and compose or are they pre generated on the map, to label monuments or something? No confirmation yet, however, I suspect it’s the former. So far, there is nothing on the development branch to allude either way. I’ll keep you posted as more comes to light.
Deploy to socket
Garry is still trucking along on the deploytosocket branch. As we distinguished yesterday, this is prerequisite work for some new functionality. Could that new functionality be signs? Maybe, but it’s still a mystery as of now. I imagine it will become more apparent as we get closer to tomorrow’s launch / devblog.
Heat waves
Helk has added some heat refractions to furnaces and campfires. Here’s a peek:
Water footsteps
He’s also added a splashing effect for when you’re walking in water. These go great with the new water footstep sounds Alex added the other day.
Edit: Helk let me know the water footsteps were done by Minh, he just added some refraction.
New meat icons
In the latest iteration of icon updates, several new ones for meat have been added. Here's a look:
