Update time!
5:40pm EST - The devblog and update are out! All of our servers (except low pop) have wiped. Great update stream all!
3:00pm EST - The update stream is live!
1:06pm EST - The update isn't live yet, however, we're seeing several commits from Helk:
- M249 is really, truly not craftable - for real this time.
- Jackolantern blueprints removed from the library - thank you!
- Pumpjacks removed (for now) - interesting...
8:45am EST - It’s that time again! The update is due to drop later today, and we’ve got a new machine gun, a nerfed torch, fixes to the build system, throwable bones, and more. This update does not force a wipe, however, all of the Rustafied servers will be wiping with the update (except low wipe).
Our live update stream starts at 3pm EST - follow Rustafied on Twitch and @Rustafied for updates throughout the day. Let’s get into it…

M249 is in
There’s a new kid on the block and he’s not fucking around. Only found in airdrops and helicopter crash sites, the M249 cannot be crafted or researched - so don’t expect to see them on every Tom, Dick, and Newman. With a huge clip (100 rounds) and long reload times, this machine gun packs a punch with all types of 5.56 ammo. Fire in bursts though, because the recoil is pretty vicious. See more here.
Recoil changes
Speaking of vicious recoil, Helk has added some 'devastating' recoil penalties to the AK and Bolt action while moving.
Duplicate blueprints less likely
Helk has also made a change to how blueprints are revealed, making it much less likely that you'll get a blueprint you already know. Awesome!
Bone club / knife are throwable
A lot more Newman’s will be throwing bones after this update - the bone club and bone knife are both now throwable. They travel farther than a rock and are pretty damn satisfying to toss.
New ak 47 first person skin
In one of the first steps towards remodeling, the first person view for the AK has a new, spiffy look. As mentioned in devblog 86, this change opens up the possibility of having new alternative components such as stocks, grips, and magazines. Still unclear as to exactly how this’ll turn out, we may even get randomized colors - which I think would be pretty cool.
Torch nerfed
The days of naked Newmans downing fully geared people with a lit torch are over - it has been nerfed in pretty much every way. The rate of fire is slower (by 25%), the hit radius has been reduced (by 50%), and the bonus damage when lit is only +1 (as opposed to +5). Basically, the rock is once again better in all ways - with the exception of lighting shit up.
Build system changes
Andre has implemented the building system, version 2. Focusing mostly on exploit fixes and stability, there aren’t a huge number of forward facing changes with this new system. That said, the stability system should be a bit more reliable now, you won’t be seeing as many “sphere test failed” messages, and various methods of stacking and off-grid building will no longer be possible.
Exploit fixes
In addition to fixing several building exploits, Andre has also resolved a couple other glitches people have been using. Specifically, people can no longer obtain super zoom levels through manually changing the FOV in console. In addition, grass can no longer be turned completely off by setting the quality to 0.
Quarry / pump jack changes
Helk has restricted placement of quarry’s and pump jacks in water. Along with preventing placement, Helk has made it so survey charges don’t leave craters if dropped in water. He’s also fixed a bug which caused survey charges not to work sometimes.
