More updates, stability fixes and chat language
2:40pm EST - I’m loving this update frequency! Another server and client update came out earlier today, no wipe was required. Before we get into what’s new today, I’d like to discuss our server chat...
Chat language
Two days ago, Rustafied.com was added to the official server list. Since then, there have been some noticeable shifts. Firstly, server population is up. At any given time, we’re seeing on average 25 to 50 more players than this time last week. Second, it becomes quickly apparent when looking at chat, many of these new players don’t speak English.
Becoming "official" has broadened our reach - we’ve gone international! Several people have asked if we’ve become a spanish server. Some asked me to consider making the server English only.
Here’s my sense of it: Human interaction is a core component of gameplay. As bandwidth gets faster, more people from different countries can play together. With this, comes language barriers. Although it can sometimes be frustrating, this increased cultural contrast stands to make the game much more interesting.
Therefore, although English is preferred, new players are welcome to join the server, regardless of what language they speak. All that being said, people skipping around all willy nilly sucks…
Latency is key!
People with shitty pings jump around like popcorn kernels on a frying pan. That makes PvP shitty. Given this, our admin team will be actively kicking / banning people with consistent pings of 300+. Sorry if you fall in this category, it’s no offence. Just, for your benefit and everyone else's, find a server with a lower ping (100 or less). Also, if you're spamming chat in any language, expect to be removed.
How to disable chat
As we continue to get more and more people, chat will continue to get crazier. If this is just distracting the fuck out of you, disable it by bringing up console (F1) and typing vis.chat 0.
Stability changes
Garry is reworking a bunch of things with regards building stability and how it is calculated. The result of this is some things which have been stable in the past are no longer stable. This is causing homeowners some grief on server restarts as parts of their houses are falling down / disappearing. Try to be patient with this because more tweaks to stability are likely to come.
Health regeneration changes
Another big change today is health regeneration speed was reduced from 10 to 5. This means it should be more feasible for a group to knock down walls and foundations. I’ll be grabbing a group of people tonight to test out the new times and best tools for demolishing building parts.
Building tweaks
Garry has also done some tweaks around building parts, specifically with triangle floors and foundations. You can now attach floor triangles to each other and place pillars on them. Also, building parts with low health are now darker again.
More console information
Server owners will notice their console is looking a bit different today. The stat bar on the bottom is no longer red but includes some more key information (mainly in game time, server uptime and network usage in and out). You’ll also notice chat messages are labeled [CHAT] and colored teal.
