Bug fixes, bug fixes and more bug fixes
10:30pm EST - Windows players will notice certain ground textures missing after the second update today. Don't worry, I'm sure they'll be back soon and, if anything, it improves your FPS!
5:53pm EST - The wooden hammer is now shittier at gathering. Will update guides accordingly.
5:45pm EST - Another small update just came out. It does not force a server update.
5:14pm EST - Nice! Garry just restricted vis.lerp and vis.net.
3:34pm EST - I updated some language about the stone spear in the tools guide, getting started guide and damage guide. Long story short: this inexpensive little bastard is your best bet for melee.
12:26pm EST - As Garry mentioned in the last devblog, this week is focused on bug fixes. One glance at the @RustUpdates twitter and you'll see the team is doing just that. As the bug fixes go up, the ability to comprehend the commits goes down. There was a small client update (~20mb) a bit earlier which implemented the fixes from yesterday and some from today. This update did not force any server updates or wipes. Here's some highlights…
Tree bug officially fixed
We've been running smooth since updating and wiping the server last night and I can confirm tree's are not respawning like crazy anymore.
Coherent UI Logging
If you play on a Mac you've surely experienced the UI simply stopping working. You hit tab and the screen just blurs. You try to chat but nothing comes up. This is because the CoherentUI process which run's the menus and chat is crashing randomly on Mac clients. The only fix is the restart the game. Garry is working on debugging this elusive issue by adding more logging of the process. Hopefully with this will allow him to track it down and fix whatever is causing the crashes.
Fixed water
The water levels near shorelines have been a little wonky lately. You may be walking on the sand but get a 'wet' notice on your vitals menu. Andre has fixed this issue today so the actual water level should match the visuals. This appears to be live after the small client update earlier today. You'll also notice the weird textures (foam) at the waters edge are not there anymore.
F2 still broken
Since the client update saturday, all graphic options (except for PVT) have been broken. When I say broken, I mean you cannot toggle them off in F2 or via commands in the console. I have not seen a specific fix for this yet, however, it’s possible they fixed it in one of the more obscure commits (I'm looking at you 'Reapplied changeset 3286').
A bunch of other random stuff
The majority of the updates today are ambiguous bug fixes. I could start making up things like 'Refactored SpawnQuadtree into generic byte storage types' means there will be a 4 trunk mega-tree which bites through your storage boxes. You don't come here to read made up bullshit, however, so lets leave it at this: They are fixing shit which is broken and iterating on things so they work better. I don't expect any new items or big features in the game this week and I'm ok with that. There are a lot of bugs and I'm glad the team is prioritizing fixes for them.
Since the focus is on bugs, here is my personal wish list for fixes:
- Graphics options not working
- Easy anti cheat kicking people
- Keys not working on server restart
- Server favorites not working
- That fucking thud sound when building which just showed up this weekend (I didn't see a bug report for this).
