On to a new week...
11:59pm EST - After watching the server for a couple hours, it appears excessive tree spawning is indeed fixed (thanks Andre). Also, our new hosting account is active and I have set up the server. This server is much more powerful and will allow us to host 250 slots or more. Given we had to wipe tonight, I will either transfer the save or wait till wipe is forced before we switch to this new box.
8:48pm EST - Getting reports the tree spawn issue is still happening. There are not any fresh bugs on the support site for it yet. I am monitoring the situation and will add one if the issue is confirmed. 12,039 Entities in the server right now...
7:57pm EST - And we're back up. Upped the slots to 125 cause we were maxing out at 100. The map has wiped and it is a new seed.
7:54pm EST - Tree bug just crashed the game. Updating and restarting now.
5:14pm EST - Looks like the team is still trucking along on random bug fixes and NRE stuff. No client update as of yet today. Our server is at 140k trees and rising. I'm actively setting up a box on our new server host. Once it's up and working smooth I'll run the switch (expect that to be tonight or tomorrow morning). We will need to wipe the map on this one due to the tree issue (which will hopefully be fixed on the new server).
2:12pm EST - It was a pretty rough weekend for Rust in general: tree's spawning like crazy and mass server outages. It’s a new week and I'm being intentional all this shit smooths over.
Our server has been experiencing outages. I am staying on top of this by switching IP’s when it happens and exploring other hosting options. In the mean time, if you're playing on the server and you get disconnected, never fear, it’ll be back up in a couple minutes. I deleted the mass amount of tweets from yesterday and do not plan on giving that level of attention to outages anymore. Just know I am doing everything I can to keep the server up. Feel free to add me on steam so you can see the server in your friends list (note: I do not accept friend request from private or fresh profiles).
Now, on to the updates…
Dense forests
As you've probably noticed if you played this weekend at all, the forest are looking extra dense. Forests have been spawning infinite trees causing the server to eventually crash. Andre posted a fix earlier which will resolve this issue on the next server restart. The fix does require a map wipe so I am trying to wait till the next client update before we restart and reset.
Server build time
Garry has been working some more on speeding up the build time. As you may recall, the build times have gone through the roof since switching to Unity 5 and SpeedTree. I'm glad they are making this a priority because faster build times = more updates.
Foamy water
If you've looked at the coast anytime in the past couple of days you may have noticed a new addition to the mix: foam. It doesn't necessarily look like foam yet, but there are definitely some new textures by the waters edge. They've been looking a little messed up at night so Andre patched the water shader to make it look a bit better.
EAC updated
EAC stands for easy anti cheat. It’s been doing a great job at keeping hackers out of the game so far. This update to the server dll's will hopefully continue to keep the hackers at bay.
That's all for now, I'll post more as I have it. Follow us on twitter to keep track of the most recent updates.
