Console news: no release this year
That’s right! We finally heard something with regards to the Rust console version! Unfortunately, it’s probably not the news you were hoping for.
Posted by Double 11 - the company responsible for porting Rust to console - the short message confirms Rust will come to console, just not this year. No word on a new launch date, D11 apologized for the delay and hopes to regain trust as they get closer to sharing something with us.
Rust Xmas: Next week!
The yearly Rust Christmas event will go live next week with a mandatory server and client update. Expected around 2pm EST (7pm GMT) the patch will activate in-game present drops, Santa’s sleigh airdrop, and by the looks of it, some new seasonal items…
New Christmas content
There are a slew of new toys in store for Rust Christmas this year! The specifics of these items aren’t necessarily set at this moment so I’ll be vague this week then have more details next week when the update actually goes live.
Snowball Gun
This ‘Blizzard Blaster’ is akin to a nerf version of the grenade launcher which fires faster. Feed this puppy one snowball and you’ll get 50 rounds in return. Fire at will to ‘lay waste to your foes with Christmas cheer.’
Sled
This childhood favorite appears as though it will come in at least 2 variations (only one is accessible on the f1 menu on staging at the moment). Similar to a boogie board, it can be placed and then mounted. If placed then mounted on top of a snowy hill, you’re in for a treat! It glides down the hill in an uncontrolled fashion for some snowy fun in Rust like never before.
Neon signs
Ever wanted a more flashy type of sign? Well you’re in luck! 3 sizes of Neon Signs are coming with the Christmas content. They take a small amount of electricity and you’ll draw on them just like any other sign.
Ice walls
These walls come in two variants: short(small and spikey), and high (fucking huge)! They can be placed willy nilly around the terrain and snap together nice -- you know, like external walls.
PTT Phones
In a small change on the voiceprops branch, phones will now respect the push to talk key and functionality. That means soon talking on the phone in Rust won’t just broadcast all the time if you have push to talk set up. Still on a separate branch, this change hasn’t quite made it to staging yet. There’s a chance it might sneak in with the Christmas update next week, but more likely to go live with the January update.
