12:00am EST - Another week in Rust development and the team is making great progress on weather, getting ready for the upcoming Halloween event, and much more.
Our update preview stream goes live at 1pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.
Weather
After being merged to staging last week, the new weather system is getting tweaks and improvements. Along with stormy rain being added, there’s now more voluptuous and varied snowfall. There’s also been some lighting tweaks and rain impact improvements.
Overall this new weather is looking great, with a mix of light weather effects combined with new storms, the ambience of Rust is about to be more dynamic than ever.
Halloween coming soon
The Rust Halloween event is just around the corner. Going live on Monday, October 26th, the exact details of this year‘s Halloween event are unknown as the work is still being done in a separate branch. That said, based on commits, it does look like trick-or-treating and loot bags will return along with potentially some new items. We’ll have more details as we get closer to the event going live later this month.
Edit: The Halloween2020 branch has been merged in! It looks like there are some new Skull Spikes and Skull Trophies (which will likely be available for purchase on the item store during the event).
Stables progress
Work continues on the next NPC villages coming to Rust. The stables monuments (of which there are at least 2 variants) will be a place to park your horse, relax a bit, buy some horse related goods from a friendly vendor NPC, and maybe even launch a mission eventually. Still on a separate branch, no word exactly when these will be in game. As always, we’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, Vincent was kind enough to send the above teaser image - looking great!
Horse issues
Working on a separate ‘horse issues’ branch, Jarryd has changed it so horses will now continue to eat if their health is below 100% (before they would stop if their stamina was 100%).
HDRP on hold
In case you missed it last week, the HDRP project was put on hold due to performance concerns.
Other stuff
Allow deploying storage monitors onto vending machines
Remove workbench rotate option
Fixed unable to deploy Counter on outer side HQM wall
Fixed an issue with skin loading occasionally causing large spikes.
Setting up destroyable road signs on a case by case basis on the server (to account for the cases where they are intentionally static).
Being killed by an auto turret will now display "Auto Turret" instead of an empty field in the player box on the death screen
