Despawn doubled… and more!
11:59pm EST - We'll be doing server maintenance rolling across the EU and US over the next 8 hours. Certain servers will be down for up to 30 minutes at a time during this period, pardon the inconvenience.
12:45pm EST - It’s a fresh week for Rust development and we’re seeing extended despawn times, improvements for dropped items, and Helk is back and healthy! Let’s get into it...
Despawn changes
There are few worse feelings in Rust than rushing back towards your dead corpse in a panic, only to find it has already despawned. Thankfully, Andre increased the despawn time for almost everything this week, along with making a couple quality of life changes. Here’s the rundown:
- Dropped items despawn about two times slower
- Corpse despawn time scales with the rarity of the contained items
- Steeper curve to scale item despawn time based on item rarity (i.e. rare items despawn even slower)
- Seeds and burnt meat now despawn faster
Dropped item improvements
Speaking of quality of life changes, we'll also see a couple in the realm of dropped items. Not only do they despawn almost twice as slow, dropped items now displace the grass around them, making them much easier to find. To top it off: debris, ragdolls, and other random shit no longer prevent you from picking up / interacting with objects behind them - making it much easier to grab items on the go.
Edit: Best of all, they just removed the lube from dropped items!
Decay changes
We’re also seeing some minor changes to decay. Mainly, deployables only decay when they're outside. This means as long as your deployables have a roof or overhang over them, they will no longer decay. With this, the deployable decay timer no longer resets when someone looks in - that timer now only resets when the deployable is repaired.
Note: This does not impact small stashes, that uses something else for decay.
Other stuff
- You can now hold down left mouse button to continously hit with hammer
- Some hidden commits to the Humanoid NPC branch. I can’t wait to see those armed scientists roaming in Rust!
- Fixed bow sometimes spamming RPCs to server
- Some progress on the hair shaders (hair hype!!)
- More progress on foliage assets branch
Here’s to a healthy Helk!
After a bit of a scare the other week, Helk is back and he’s happy to report it doesn’t appear to have been anything too serious. Awesome! Check out his thank you post to everyone here.
Glad you’re doing well, Helk. Thank you for continuing to create such an awesome game. And for the love of god, get some exercise!! <3
Successful Rust: Prime launch!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make last week’s Rust: Prime launch such a success. We had about 3000 people verify with the system and had both of our Prime servers (US and EU) full with queues on wipe day. Stay tuned for more info on the expansion of Rust: Prime over the next several weeks and make sure you’re ready for their fresh wipes this week!
