Pool party, bullet speed, and gates cleanup.
2:24pm EST - Update day is almost upon us. With Garry and Andre focusing on server optimizations, we haven’t seen too many forward facing additions yet this week. That said, a lot can happen in two days and regardless, I’ll take smoother gameplay over any new feature I can think of.
Reminder: Changes to the map will force a map wipe on all servers with this update (no sign of a forced blueprint wipe). Might we see some of Vince’s new dungeons? *Fingers crossed*
Pool party
Garry and Andre have been having a pool party. No, they are not splashing around playing Marco Polo; they are optimizing server performance by adding object pooling (among other things). As Garry mentioned in the devblog, this process requires changes to numerous parts of the code base. Subsequently, it takes a while and can leave the development branch broken at times.
Although nothing is confirmed, this body of work will ideally bring on smoother gameplay, making server-wide freezes a thing of the past.
Bullet speed
A new addition to the weekly devblogs, polls will now be used to gauge community opinion. Answering the question, “What do you think of the gunplay in Rust right now?” 63% of people think bullets should be faster, 23% think the bullet speed is fine as it is, and 14% think it should change to hitscan (yuck).
Many will be happy to hear, Helk is working on increasing bullet speed for Thursday’s update (along with some fixes to the heli).
Gates cleanup
Vince has been cleaning up the new exterior gates; adding new textures and tweaking the animations. With this, it seems like a good chance we’ll see the new stone gate in this weeks update.
