Potential rubberbanding fix, less rain, and balaclava progress
3:00pm EST - We are just one day away from the update this week. This hasn't been the most active week (as expected with Garry out), however, the team is still making progress. Reminder: No wipes are planned on Rustafied servers when the update hits. Before we get into it, I’d like to answer the question some people may be asking...
Where’d the dev branch server go?
It’s that time of the week again; the development branch compatibility has shifted, forcing clients to be opted into the development branch to see / join the server. If you’d like to play on our dev branch server, follow these instructions on how to opt your client into the development branch.
New host
We’re switching to our new server host today. Although much of the recent lag does appear to be game related, we are trying a new, more powerful server box to see if that helps things. Our IP address will change, however, no wipe will occur and you’ll still be able to find us on the official list. Expect intermittent downtime on our servers over the next few hours as we make the shift.
Rubberbanding
Over the past week or two, performance has gone downhill and lag has increased. One of the main symptoms is rubberbanding, where players warp back and forth as they are running somewhere. Andre is testing a potential fix for this today (it is on the dev branch now) so hopefully player movement will be much smoother across the board when the update hits tomorrow.
Rain, rain, go away
Given it seems to rain almost every day in Rust, Andre has once again modified the dynamic weather system to reduce the chance of rain, awesome. Rain every now and again is fine but it’s pretty depressing to go days without a little sunshine.
Balaclava
Xavier has completed the models and prefabs for the newest form of headgear, the balaclava. This still needs to be implemented in the game, so no visuals yet. In the meantime, here’s a shot from the last devblog:
