Steam inventory
Garry's primary focus this week has been on the new steam inventory blueprint system. Eventually this will enable people to buy, sell, and trade various item skins on the Steam Market. Given the scale, it is unknown exactly what will be implemented (if anything) when the update goes live today. One thing is clear: the number of item variations will be soaring through the roof in the near future.
More on the new blueprint system here.
New clothing variations
As part of the new blueprint system, 14 clothing variations including shirts, jackets, and pants have been added. These all appear to be a new type of blueprint, tied into the steam market. Admins are able to spawn the items, however, the items are not researchable and blueprints cannot be learned. Given this, it’s not clear if normal players will even be able to use any of these new clothing variations as of the update today. We'll know more as we get closer to launch, in the mean time, here are some screens:
Better item pickup
The functionality for picking up dropped items has been greatly improved this week as items now return to the inventory slot they were previously in. This is particularly useful when picking up thrown spears, allowing for an easy re-throw.
Movement improvements
Andre has made some big strides at improving player movement this week. With several fixes to the dynamic of jumping along with variations to how players travel up steep slopes, the overall movement system is better than it’s ever been. Although there is definitely more work to be done, these are some significant steps in the right direction.
Bone armor
Another use for bone fragments is in the mix with the addition of bone armor. Both default blueprints, the bone armor jacket and pants cost a mix of cloth and bone fragments. Here are some details and screens:
Bone Jacket
Cost
20 cloth
200 bone fragments
Crafting time
60 seconds
Bone Armor Pants
Cost
20 cloth
150 bone fragments
Crafting time
60 seconds
Wood armor
Along with bone armor, a new armor made of wood has been added. Also a default blueprint, this new armor costs a mix of wood and cloth. Here are some details:
Wood Chestplate
Cost
20 cloth
300 wood
Crafting time
60 seconds
Wood Armor Pants
Cost
20 cloth
200 wood
Crafting time
60 seconds
Road sign kilt
With the addition of the road sign kilt, our favorite scrap metal armor ensemble is finally complete! Like its brother, the road sign jacket, it is not a default blueprint. It covers your front, side and rear with a total of 4 signs and costs 10 cloth and 30 metal fragments.
ALT free look
How you look behind you has changed significantly this week. No longer does the camera snap behind you when you press the ALT key. Instead, holding ALT enters a free look mode, allowing you to move your mouse to look around while still running forward. Releasing ALT will snap your head back to center.
Updated F1 menu
The F1 menu has gotten a facelift. The tabs for each section have moved to the top of the screen and the item list now includes icons as opposed to just text.
The big secret
Remember the big secret that was going to be coming last week? Well, it’s not going to make it in for this update either. My suggestion: just forget about it for the time being, then it’ll be a nice surprise once it does make it in.
Death star updates
Vincent has been working on some modifications to the sphere tank monument (aka Death Star). The new monument will feature an inside area along with pipes and walkways to move around on. Given this is still on a separate branch, it looks like we might have to wait another week or two before we see it in action.
Female models
The first iteration of testing female models has started this week. Don’t get your hopes up, however, there are still a bunch of bugs to be ironed out so, for the time being, only server admins are female models (this may be reverted prior to the update going live).
Other stuff
- Quarry sound fixes
- Fixes to weird ragdoll eyes
- Progress on the 2 handed sword (not in yet)

Here’s the status of map wipes on each of our servers (no blueprints will be wiped):
- Main (200 slot) - Map will wipe when the update hits
- Dev branch - Map will wipe when the update hits
- Low pop - Will not be wiping
