We've got a good one in store this week!
6:20pm EST - Here's some other things in this update which aren't mentioned below:
- Codelock gives small electrical shock on failure (about 1 hp damage)
- Quarries yields 3x more materials
- Doors, windows bars, pillars, low wall have lower max health
4:20pm EST - Update and devblog are live! Stay warm out there, this weather can get you cold quick!
2:30pm EST - Our live update stream starts in half an hour. Come see what's new this week and get answers to the important gameplay questions!
1:45pm EST - We're seeing some tweaks to the weather and fixes for spazzy ragdolls. If you're eager to try out this update before it launches, opt your client into the development branch and join us on our dev branch server (on the official list).
10:36am EST - Some big changes to building from Garry just now:
- You can demolish any type of building blocks (walls, doors, windows, etc) with the hammer for up to 10 minutes after they are placed
- Rotation is now only allowed for 10 minutes after a building block is placed
- Items fall if the block below them is rotated out from underneath
1:28am EST - Today is the day and, oh boy, is this update fucking awesome! Garry made good on last weeks promise to polish a bunch of stuff (and then some), we’ve got new items, new game balance, bigger (or much smaller) dicks, the return of stealth, and weather to boot! Holy shit team, you tore it up this week!
Expect the update to hit between 4pm and 6pm EST (8-10pm GMT). There will be no forced wipe this week, however, wipes are still up to each server owner's discretion (Rustafied wipe info at the bottom of this post).
As usual, follow @Rustafied throughout the day for updates and tune in to our live update stream starting at 3pm EST. Let’s get into it...

Semi auto pistol
The p250 from legacy has been reborn, and it is glorious! This puppy fires fast, has pinpoint accuracy (especially given the new, faster bullet velocity), and just feels right. Not a default blueprint, however, this 9mm firing bad boy doesn’t break the bank. Here’s some details:
Cost
200 frags
25 cloth
Clip
8 rounds of 9mm ammo
Craft time
3 minutes
Road sign jacket
A new armor contender has arisen: the road sign jacket stands to be the new starting armor for freshies and established players alike. This non-default (but common) blueprint protects from damage around 50% where the signs cover and protects like hide everywhere else. Here’s some details:
Cost
40 cloth
60 frags
Craft time
1 minute
Dynamic weather
Andre has been toiling away on a new, custom weather system. This completely dynamic system of rain, snow, and fog ensures that no two days in Rust will ever be exactly the same again. Completely shifting the overall environment and feel of the game, it works how you would think: It starts raining; you get wet (and cold). Find shelter (cave, monument, home) to escape the elements. Given the dynamicity and freshness of the system, expect tweaks and changes to be needed. Find more pictures and details on yesterday’s post.
Dick sizes (and other ‘bones’)
Despite varying faces and skin tone, each Newman has always been endowed with the same equipment downstairs… until today. Penis size is now determined by your unique steamid. Although penis size tends to take precedence, players vary in arm / leg length as well. Before you get up in arms about advantage of varying hitbox sizes, please note: these changes are pretty slight, to the point where I doubt it’ll make any real tactical difference.
Bolt action sight fixed
Most exciting of all things polished this week: the bolt action sight is no longer off center! Here’s a comparison of before and after (with red dot added to the screen center):
Ammo velocity increased
In other gunplay news, the velocity of all ammo has been increased, making it much easier to land hits with standard rounds.
Building cost changes
Floors, doors, pillars, doorway/window walls and foundation steps have all been made cheaper; triangle foundations and floors are half the cost of their square counterparts, making round bases much more cost effective than previously. Also, building shell protection has been added to the triangle pieces, allowing them to offer the same protection that square pieces do.
Code lock is a default BP
No more futzing around with keys or fiddling with hammers to rotate stairs; the code lock is now a default blueprint. Also, the price has shifted from 500 wood and 50 frags to 400 wood and 100 frags.
Stealth is back
Ninjas of Rust rejoice, crouching is once again silent. Go about stalking your prey as quiet as a mouse. To top it off, those random footstep sounds after you come to a halt are now a thing of the past.
C4 changes
The overall damage dealt by C4 has been taken down a notch this week. Splash damage is dead, they now only damage the block they were placed on (and any players / ai in the blast radius). As of now, it still looks like the numbers to get through each wall are still the same (2 for stone, 1 for sheet metal, and 3 for armor).
Right click to quick loot
Looting boxes and bodies just got a bit easier as Garry added the ability to right click to place in inventory. It does take about 2 seconds to complete, however, there is currently no delay to limit on how fast you right click each item.
UI improvements
Operating furnaces and campfires will be much easier in this update given the addition of a nifty little on/off button on the loot panel of each.
Other changes:
Along with everything above, there were a ton of other miscellaneous changes this week. Here’s some highlights:
- No longer lose spears in destroyed barrels or animals
- Droppable items stack when they collide (drop two stacks of 250 wood and they’ll combine into 1 stack of 500 on the ground)
- Gunpowder crafts about 2 times faster
- Fires produce less charcoal
- Shotguns are less rare and more powerful
- Only moderators can use the ‘sleep’ command now
- You can throw grenades farther
- Items dropped into wood boxes no longer disappear
- Locks on wood storage no longer disappear
- Water catcher works better
- New distant sounds
Rustafied server wipes
Here’s the map wipe status for each of our servers:
- Main - The map will wipe (and we’re upping to 250 slots!)
- Low pop - Will not wipe
- Hapis - Will not wipe
- Dev branch - Entity count is fine but I've heard several requests that the dev branch wipe, so lets put it to a vote!
- Voting closed, map wiped.
No blueprint wipes are planned for the foreseeable future.
