Farming, windmills, semi-auto pistol, and shivers.
2:55pm EST - It is a fresh week in Rust development and we’ve got some exciting new things on the horizon. Given it’s early in the week, visuals and information are limited. As always, I’ll keep you posted as these new things hit the development branch. Let’s get into it...
Farming
As mentioned in the last devblog, Garry’s primary objective for this week is farming. He’s started laying the groundwork for that today and has added the vegetable assets. I’m really excited about the advent of things like farming, not only does it provide more things to do in the game, it’ll start encouraging players and groups to create compounds as opposed to individual bases. More on farming as the functionality comes to light.
Windmills
Vince has rigged up the windmill models, animations, LOD’s and gibs. That means all that’s left before we see these in game is the functionality implementation. Will these be added with the farming this week? We’ll see..
New pistol progress
Minh is working on the new semi-automatic pistol. So far he has rigged up the view model and completed several animations. It is not yet available in the game, however, I do expect we’ll see it this week or next.
Shivers
In addition to the pistol progress, Minh has also added 3rd person animations for shivers when you’re cold. I stood around naked in the snow on a test server for a bit, but I wasn’t able to catch a glimpse of this animation yet.
Depth of field cvar
Garry has added a new graphics cvar: graphics.dof. Set to false by default, this new variable adds a depth of field effect when turned on (similar to the camera, but not as drastic). Here’s an example (notice the second picture is blurry in parts?):
