Friday fixes
4/5 2:50pm EST - Looks like the latest dev build has working menus again. A map wipe was forced on last update also.
4/5 @ 1:55pm EST - The current dev build is borked - no menu when you load the game. Jenkins is building some new versions now so hopefully this'll be fixed shortly.
4/4 @ 3:00pm EST - The team continues to work over the weekend with a focus on bug fixes, tweaks, and optimizations. The development branch, which just had a forced map wipe about an hour ago, is running a shitload smoother. The new terrain continues to be awesome, however, if you are playing on development, try not to get attached to your stuff; I get the sense some more wipes may be forced prior to this going live next week.
Also, big news from a glitching standpoint: Helk has fixed uncrouching into ceiling and rocks!
3:10pm EST - Yesterday was full of mixed emotions. The update we were so eager for was postponed till next week, however, we did finally get a look at the updated terrain on the development branch. Frankly, I’m really happy they didn’t try to launch yet. Although the new terrain is fucking awesome, there were some issues with the new build. Thankfully, Garry and team are focusing on fixing those things.
Client performance
When I first loaded the new terrain on the development branch yesterday, my FPS was about half of what it normally is. This isn’t a huge shock considering the amount of new textures and shaders which have been implemented. Thankfully, the team has already started addressing this issue, adding terrain quality levels and tweaking some shaders. In addition to this, our old friend PVT has once again switched sides...
PVT disabled by default
Procedural Virtual Texturing can’t seem to make up it’s mind. First, having it on decreased FPS drastically. Then, for the past several weeks, having it on has helped FPS across the board. With this new terrain, it has flopped back in the other direction, once again hurting FPS when it is on. Given FPS is already lower with this build, Andre has made it so PVT is once again disabled by default.
No numbers in inventory
As an unintended byproduct of the new ammo counters, stack numbers in the inventory were missing yesterday. Garry has remedied the situation today, adding those numbers back in.
New icons
Some more of Meg’s new icons have been added:
Repair bench
Along with the new terrain, we also got our first ingame look at the new repair bench. Here’s some shots:
