And here we’ll paint a happy little tree…
6:11pm EST - Minh has passed the ball to Helk, who is now implementing the rocket launcher.
12:38pm EST - Day 2 of a new week in Rust development and we've got a big new addition: Hand drawn signs! After a quiet day of commits yesterday, the team has exploded out of the gate today. First and foremost, lets look at these signs...
Hand drawn signs
The days of simply typing a messages over; Newmans now have a blank canvas when it comes to signs. With different brush shapes, sizes, opacity and a 20 color palette, people will be able to paint the landscape or draw Dick Butt in an infinite number of ways.
In addition to added creativity possibilities, these new signs are aimed at being more stable; ideally not causing client crashes like their typography based older brothers. This is currently live on our dev server if you want to test it out.
Sign editor controls:
- Hold right mouse to spin the sign around
- Hold shift and right mouse to pan
- Mouse wheel zooms
Here’s a short video and some screens:
New stair progress
Vincent continues the implementation process for the new stairs, finishing the models for all tiers. If you remember from last week, it looks like there will be two types, L shaped and U shaped. Given these aren't added to the building plan, they are not yet able to be tested on the dev branch. More info to come as they are added in fully, in the mean time, here's the one picture we do have:
Medical tool fixes
Helk has fixed some things with how the medical tools work on the wounded. Specifically, the medical syringe will revive the person now along with boosting their health (which wasn't working previously).
Cloud tweaks
Andre is in the clouds today, updating and tweaking lighting on our puffy new friends. Here's some shots:
Rocket launcher
We’re seeing several commits from Minh dealing with animations for the newest explosion maker: The rocket launcher. It is not yet implemented in the game, however, given the progress over the past week, I’d be surprised if it didn't make it into this weeks update.
Invincibility in bushes fixed
One of the most game breaking bugs in the game at the moment is anything inside a bush is invincible. That means a properly placed twig hut can be completely unraidable and its occupants insusceptible to gunfire. Thankfully, this has been fixed, so enjoy this limited time offer before Thursday.
Alt-tab woes
Since the other week, alt-tabbing has been kicking clients from servers with an, “Unresponsive” error. This is caused by a fix Garry put in to get rid of people throttling their ping for advantage, however, it is causing more headaches than it solves. Less important, if you do manage to alt-tab back without being disconnected, brightness is turned way down (slowly rising again over a couple minutes). No sign of these issues being addressed yet but I really hope a fix gets slipped in there prior to Thursday's update. In the mean time, if you want to avoid being disconnected (along with ruin your immersion), run in windowed mode.
Rustaforum.com maintenance
We’re upgrading our forum software to a new version. This will provide some cool new features and a better mobile design. Unfortunately, we hit a hiccup and the database migration which we’re still working through. Therefore, rustaforum is currently down. No worries, we have multiple backups of the data and will just revert if not resolved by later today.
