Candle hat, repair bench info, missing parts and rivers
5:50pm EST - Hammer demolish was just removed... interesting...
4:55pm EST - You can now assign a sleeping bag to your friend or someone else in the server, awesome!
1:24pm EST - We are one day away from this week’s big update. Many people are asking: is the map going to wipe? The answer is no, a wipe will not be forced with tomorrow’s update. Performance appears to be holding strong so it looks like this may be the first week in a while where we don’t have to wipe. Now, on to the goofiest new addition to the game...
Candle hat
Destined to be the newest fashion craze among Newmans, the candle hat is real. Will it help you see at night? Yes. Does it look freaking ridiculous? You bet. Am I excited as hell to wear it? Fuck yes. Although it has been moved to ‘Done this week,’ I’m not currently able to find it on the dev branch. More information and pictures as soon as it’s really in.
Missing building parts
Garry has done some more tweaks to how entities communicate with the server, hopefully fixing the missing building part bug. This change is live on the development server so please let me know if you still experience missing building parts.
Repair bench info
The repair bench is in and it works pretty much just like it did in Legacy: Drop an item in it, hit the repair button, it takes certain resources depending on the item and damage. It is still very much coder art (see below) but it functions just fine. Here are some notes:
- It costs 100 wood, 30 metal frags and 1 large storage box.
- It is not a default item, meaning you’ll have to find the blueprint before you can craft one (and a large wood storage blueprint).
- It is not easily destroyed. I went through a whole hatchet whacking at it and the bench went no where.
- Expect this to change. I spoke with Maurino about the bench and he told me it's all bullshit right now and will be balanced before Thursday's update.
Blueprint drops
Not a day goes by when there aren’t at least several new posts on reddit about the blueprint drop rates. I think most everyone is in agreement, the loot tables need tweaking. Thankfully, Garry hears the concerns and will be creating a script over the next couple weeks which will give much more insight into what spawns where. This will help find the balance by allowing things to be tweaked more easily. In the meantime, try to be patient and know, we’re not planning on wiping blueprints any time soon.
Damage indicator
Garry has added back a directional damage indicator. This is a welcome addition because knowing where you're getting hit from is pretty fucking important.
Radiation changes
Garry has tweaked the radiation overlay and sound. The transition into radiation is now smoother and the geiger sound quieter.
Rivers
Andre is doing some awesome work on the river system in the procgen6 branch. Today he is working on the water mesh generation. Remember, these changes aren’t going to be in this week’s update, expect to see them next week. Here’s a shot he posted on trello (and two from the other day):
Warehouse monument
Andre has also added a new monument: the warehouse. I couldn’t find any images of this yet, however, I’ll post some as soon as I get them.
Where is the dev branch server?
It’s that time again, I just ran an update on the dev server (did not wipe) and it is no longer on the server list of the main branch. To get back in there, you’ll need to opt your client into the development branch.
