New UI coming down the pike!
7:24pm EST - Many reports of people getting kicked sporadically. Garry sent out another client / server update client update a little while ago, here's the summary:
- If network exception disconnection, tell server what the exception was
- Handle main menu news not loading properly
- Fixed blurry menu texture
- Fixed UI scaling wrong on 4:3
Hopefully the random kicks will be a bit better now. Garry said he'll work more on this over the weekend.
6:10pm EST - An hour and a half in maxed out and server performance is looking solid. Animals are still pretty jerky so I may switch off movement.
4:55pm EST - As you start playing, you'll quickly see what's missing with the new UI: Building blocked / allowed notices, voice chat, bleeding, resource limits, etc.
4:47pm EST - Devblog is up: http://playrust.com/devblog-45/
4:37pm EST - Ok, we're officially up! Check out the new map here.
4:32pm EST - The client update just came out, however, we're getting incompatibility errors after updating the server. Looking in to it now, I'll keep you posted.
4:17pm EST - The client just finished uploading to steam. I think we're just minutes away here...
3:22pm EST - A couple more commits from Garry several minutes ago. Is the up launch coming shortly? I think so...
12:30pm EST - It’s an exciting day for Rust. As you know, Friday is devblog and update day and we’ve got a biggie on the way! The team is cranking out fixes and functionality for the UI reboot on the development branch, and Garry told me it is likely that we’ll see the update hit main at some point today. As always, I’ll keep you up to date as the day progresses. Here’s a summary of the progress today so far...
F2 menu
The F2 menu got a huge facelift. Beyond just aesthetics, we now have more options at our fingertips than ever before. The new F2 menu doesn’t just handle graphic settings anymore, it now lets you change sensitivity, audio settings and shows your FPS graph on the bottom.
Metabolism
The metabolism notices are no longer ever present on the right side of the screen. They appear to be hooked up and include a percentage meter for things like water now.
Chat
Chat is something we’ll probably have to deal with being a bit rudimentary for a couple days. It is still missing history and allowing blank messages to send. Also, say commands from server console are not sending (just showing “SERVER CONSOLE” with the Rust logo). None of these things are the end of the world. If you remember legacy, we lived for a while with no chat history.
Dry fire animations
Minh has added dry fire animations and sounds for all the weapons. This is nice because up till now, it can be easy to not notice when you’re out of ammo.
Player skin variants
Although we won't see it in the update today, Alex is working on some exciting developments in the player skin realm. He's had several commits today relating to a "black male variant." This is cool and all, but I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd rather see a female skin be introduced before we see another hanging dong (even if it is bigger and blacker).
Metal skins
I missed this one yesterday but wanted to put it in because it looks fucking awesome. Vincent posted these pictures of the top tier metal buildings:
