Nerfed rocks, attacking animals, moving mouths and monuments
11:50pm EST: Another great day in Rust! Unfortunately, no client update since Tuesday morning. As I've previously speculated, they've made some huge changes this week and want to make sure the game is stable before launching an update. I'd wager to bet there will be an update before the devblog tomorrow. In the mean time, check out our new guide for tools in Rust.
6:50pm EST: Added some raw stats on the nerfed rock from the JSON data on the inventory site. See below for details.
5:45pm EST: No client update yet today, they are probably still working out some kinks. That's ok with me, I'd rather have a more stable version come up tomorrow than an unstable version launch tonight. On another note, peturah posted about new wind variations depending on location and time.
3:30pm EST: Ooo more new monuments? Looks like it! Check out the image Garry just posted on reddit!
2:50pm EST: @rustupdates is scrolling pretty fast as Garry keeps knocking out NRE (NullReferenceException) and misc other issues.
2:15pm EST: A couple more updates coming out on twitter now. Mostly errors and null conditions and likely some leftover stuff from the steamworks switchover (see yesterdays post for more info). Hopefully this is just some wrap up work before the update is pushed!
12:20pm EST: Big stuff popping off today! Still no client updates as of yet but I'm sure it’s coming soon. Note: The updates from the previous 3 posts are also still not live given there hasn't been a client update since Tuesday. Garry and team have changed a ton of stuff the past few days so I'm sure they are just waiting till it's stable enough to launch. Let's hope thats today!
Here’s the low down so far today...
Nerfed rocks
The attack speed and damage of the rocks have been decreased all the way around. Also, rocks will do less damage to stone and metal buildings. Sweet! This should make freshly spawned newmans a little less of a hazard. Here's some details on the demolish proficiency (how long it takes to knock a wall down) on the rock vs. the hatchet:
Rock:
"demolishProficiency": [
1,
1,
0.5,
0.25,
0.1,
0.01,
0.005
]
Hatchet
"demolishProficiency": [
1,
1,
1,
0.5,
0.3,
0.02,
0.01
]
You can see, even though they start out even, once you get into level 3 and up, rock becomes a lot less efficient. I will redo the numbers on our building upgrade guide once this update goes live.
When animals attack
Bears and wolves are no longer your best friends. They now viciously attack you instead of just sniffing your nether regions. I’m very excited to see this added, the more threats to your survival the better!
Movin mouths
Great news on the voice chat front! Garry got p2p networking in and is now running the voice chat through that. Fucking.. awesome! As you may have noticed, voice chat has been pretty unreliable since the update to Unity 5. Not being able to reliably communicate with people you come across makes it very hard to work together. The other sweet part of this is characters mouths now move when chatting. This looks both hilarious and awesome.
New monument
You've probably seen the reddit post with the new radiation monument. This lighthouse looking thing is a welcome change to the wolf sausage fest we've seen as of late. I'll be grabbing some screenshots as soon as the updates live.
Vital notices are back
Since the change to the vitals UI (the health bar and such) earlier this week, your Newman has been able to withstand freezing cold, drowning, heat, starvation and more. This is a thing of the past now as Garry has added back in the notices for all this shit.
