Just two more days!

12:22pm EST - Exciting things in store for this week! An update (which forces a map wipe) is due out on Thursday. Along with some improvements to the procedural map generation, the first iteration of dungeons will be included! There will of course be some more things in this update, however, we’re flying blind at the moment due to…

@RustUpdates has been disabled

You may have noticed the twitter commit feed, @RustUpdates, has been silent since last week. No, the developers haven’t all simultaneously gone on hiatus, rather, the feed itself has been disabled.

Now, before you freak out (like I almost did), don’t worry. I chatted with Garry and he told me he plans on setting something else up. I do hope this happens sooner rather than later given how important that information is. Not only does it get people hyped about what’s happening with development throughout the week, it provides crucial information as to what needs to be tested when playing on the development branch.

Dungeons

For several months, Vincent has been painstakingly been working on greybox models for several new dungeons (What are dungeons? Think: new rad towns). Shrouded in secrecy, these dungeons haven’t been experienced in game by anyone but the developers. That is all due to change later tonight / early tomorrow, as they are scheduled to be merged into main. Expect a full write up with visuals shortly after they hit the development branch.

Options menu improvements

The options menu, which was recently moved from F2 to the main menu, has received a bit of a makeover. Along with a better layout, the input tab now has key bindings! Here are some screens:

Rust Monitor

A new site, rustmonitor.com, has just been launched. Developed by KidKrule, this site provides up to date information about official servers, global player counts, twitch viewers and more. It also has a cool visual for tracking commits from each developer, however, with no feed, it is currently rendered useless. Some cool features (including support for community servers) are planned for the future so I’m excited to see how this site progresses.
