World update
Today marks a monumental update in Rust, with a massive overhaul to the procedural map generation leading the charge. There are some significant changes that are set to transform how you explore and interact with the world. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s new in today's update.
Rivers
Rivers got a huge overhaul this month. Depending on the map size, up to three rivers can spawn, each beginning as a thin stream in higher regions and gradually widening as they approach the coast. These rivers aren't just for show; they feature a current that speeds up travel in kayaks and boogie boards, adding a new layer of strategy and fun to water navigation. While these rivers flow under roads and train tracks, be aware that you can't kayak underneath these crossings. Get ready to explore these flowing new features!
Oases
Rust's desert biome has a refreshing update with the addition of oases! These serene spots feature fresh water, lush trees, and vibrant foliage, providing a stark contrast to the arid surroundings. There are three distinct variants of oases, bringing a bit of variety and life to the sands. On a standard-sized map, you can expect to find two of these tranquil havens. Whether you're seeking respite from the desert heat or a picturesque spot for your base, these oases are a welcome addition to the landscape.
Canyons
Rust's landscape is becoming even more rugged and adventurous with the introduction of canyons. These deep, buildable canyons are sprinkled with trees and nodes, offering unique opportunities for strategic base placements. Each canyon features more accessible entrances at either end, but for the bold, many areas are climbable, challenging players to explore vertically. These canyons also showcase some of the new cliff faces, adding dramatic visuals to the mix. You'll find these striking geological features in both the forest and desert biomes of the map, adding diversity and challenge to your surroundings.
Lakes
Also part of the world update, maps now feature three types of lakes, with typically two lakes spawning per map. These tranquil water bodies are nestled within the forest biome, adding picturesque spots that are not only perfect for setting up camp but also great for gathering fresh water and fishing. And for those looking to explore a bit more or snag those hard-to-reach fishing spots, these lakes occasionally spawn a rowboat.
Cliffs and rock formations
Rust's world update has dramatically reshaped the terrain with the addition of stunning new cliff faces scattered across the map. These cliffs aren't just for show; they're fully interactive, with plenty of parts designed for jumping and climbing, challenging players to explore their heights. Alongside these new cliffs, the iconic God and Anvil rocks have made a comeback, complemented by a variety of new rock structures that may shift the meta of building going forward.
Radtown
Welcome to Radtown, Rust's latest monument that's shaking things up on the map! Splitting the road with its presence, this walled-off zone is packed with several buildings, each offering a touch of danger with its radioactive hotspots. While you won't find any puzzles or NPC’s here, the Radtown features resources including loot (wood boxes, food crates, barrels) and a Recycler to keep things interesting. Be cautious of the radiation levels, particularly inside the buildings. An exciting addition here is the ability to find and collect radioactive water, introducing a new twist.
Radioactive water
Get ready to handle with care—the new radioactive water introduced in Rust's Radtown! Found in puddles around this monument, this hazardous liquid adds a layer of risk and strategy. Be cautious, as it will contaminate any fresh water sources it mixes with, turning them toxic. If sprayed on plants, it acts as a lethal herbicide, killing vegetation. Players should also beware of getting splashed, as it will expose them to radiation.
Dive sites and Buoys
Dive into excitement with Rust's rework of diving sites, each now marked by new buoys bobbing on the water's surface. These sites are brimming with fascinating details, from crabs and skeletons to starfish, enriching your subaquatic exploration. There’s also good loot you can untie and have float up to the surface. But stay alert—sharks are known to roam these areas, adding a dash of danger to your dive. Remember, these sites aren’t marked on your map, so keep your eyes peeled for the buoys that herald these hidden treasures beneath the waves.
Legacy wood piles
Legacy wood piles are back in Rust, and they're set to become your new favorite method for quickly gathering wood. Each pile yields around 850 wood with just a few swings of your metal hatchet, and the best part? You don't need to aim at any specific spot—just swing away. This simple and efficient way to stock up on wood means you can spend less time chopping and more time building and crafting. Make sure to keep an eye out for these piles as you explore the world; they're a game-changer for resource gathering!
Waterwells
Waterwells just got a major upgrade in Rust, making these mini-monuments more useful. Each well now features a friendly NPC shopkeeper who sells teas, tools, and even some weapons. But that's not all—wells also spawn planter boxes for harvesting, along with special new food crates that feature various edibles and sometimes even teas. These handy spots aren't marked on the map, so you'll need to stumble across them as you explore. It's a great place to stock up and refresh your supplies while on the move!
Frontier Hazmat DLC
Get ready to gear up Rust style with the new Frontier Hazmat DLC launching with today's update! This DLC packs some seriously cool gear, including a rustic hazmat suit, a rugged frontier hatchet, and a blunderbuss skin for your double barrel shotgun, each boasting great looks and incredible detail. Whether you're exploring the map or defending your turf, these items will add some old-world charm to your adventures. Keep an eye on the item store and in-game store as these skins will be dropping just in time for the update.
High Caliber Revolver
Get ready to up your firepower with the High Caliber Revolver, hitting Rust in today's update. This new 6-shooter pistol eclipses the Python with superior damage, accuracy, and range, while trading off with a slower rate of fire to keep things balanced. It’s a beast that feeds on 5.56 ammo, giving you the power to pack a punch in your encounters. Perfect for players who want precision and impact in their shots, this revolver is set to be a new favorite in the arsenal of any gunslinger out there.
