1:00pm EST - Our update stream is live! twitch.tv/rustafied

12:00am EST - It’s a new month and a fresh update for Rust! June brings a second building skin DLC, upgrade animations, balance, fixes, and more.

Expect the update and forced wipe to hit at regular time, 2pm EST (7pm BST). Our update stream goes live at 1pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Shipping Container DLC

Second of its kind, a new building skin DLC goes live today. The Shipping Container is a building skin for the sheet metal tier. Like its little stone brother, Adobe, these changes are purely aesthetic and do not change any damage / raiding stats.

Unlike Adobe, the Shipping Container skin allows users to change color! Choosing from 16 colors with the Spray Can, players can create multitudes of new variations for their bases. The color changes even extend slightly to the inside also, with some inner accent elements. Once you’ve selected a color on the Spray Can, all future upgrades will match. If no color has been selected yet that session, upgrades will be a randomized color.

Expect this to be available for purchase on the item store around update time. No word on price-point yet, but would expect it to be comparable to the Adobe DLC.

Skin selection UI

The radial menu options for selecting building skins have shifted this month. Instead of a toggle select turning skins on and off on the hammer radial menu when upgrading, you can now scroll through building skins for each tier with the default ‘q’ and ‘e’ keys.

Don’t worry, if you’re already using those keys for other things, you can set them in the escape menu, options, controls, and then under ‘context menu’.

Creation effects

Speaking of building upgrades, a whole new set of animations (creation effects) have been added for when you’re upgrading each building tier. These dynamic animations play pretty quick and do not change the actual upgrade speed (which is still instant).

Also, for those of you pinching every frame per second, you can turn these new animations off completely via the options menu, ‘creation effects’ or with the following convar in F1: ‘effects.creationeffects false’.

Respawn changes

In the realm of balance, some changes to respawning come in this month. Most notably, there is now a max number of respawn points (bags and beds) available to each player per server. By default, this max is 15, and you’ll see a notice of your current limits when placing a bag.

Along with this new limit, some shifts to bag fundamentals. Players can now view and delete their bags on the fly via the in-game map (even if in cooldown). When deleted, a bag does not disappear. Instead, it becomes an unclaimed bag on the map. Other players are able to come along and claim for themselves if they so please. A setting you might want to check out is the ‘bag gifting’ option which allows you to select who, if anyone, can gift you bags. As of writing, this appears to still be a work in progress.

In-game map improvements

While your managing bags now in the in-game map, you’ll notice another couple changes this month. Primarily, all map markers from you or your team leader are now listed on the left. There have also been some quality of life improvements and fixes to tooltips.

Wipe timer improvements

After the addition of the Nuclear Missile Silo monument and subsequent end-of-wipe events, some improvements to how server owners control said events are on their way in.

  • Wipe timer refactored to use cron expressions (using the Cronos library, which handles things like DST)

  • New convar, wipetimer.wipeUnixTimestampOverride for manual control over the wipe timer

  • New convar to specify the timezone to use for wipe time calculation (wipeTimezone, default Europe/London to match force wipe times)

  • Turn PrintWipe into a console command and add more info to it for testing configs

Handmade shell world model

Another fresh world model is making its way in this month. No more burlap sacks when dropping handmade shells, you’ll now see a cool hand crafted box with a sticky note.

Misc. fixes

There’s also been several miscellaneous fixes this month. Here are some highlights:

  • Fixed corpse & skull not having name hidden in streamer mode

  • Fixed cowbell mallet not appearing in right hand when using a cowbell

  • Fix to resolve floating pylons on the map (edge cases)

Other stuff

  • Improved horse idle animations

  • Can now change RF Transmitter frequency while in a hostile TC radius

  • Added slightly larger ‘no build’ radius around the Missile Silo monument

  • Work on an improved keybind system to account for more options

  • Bradley: Don't target players who are in a safe zone. Also, if a player is being targeted and enters a safe zone, Bradley will stop targeting them (may take up to 2 seconds)

  • Infinite ammo (infiniteammor), repair (repair_inventory), and reload weapons (reloadweapons) convars added for developers and admins

  • Clean up tooltips

  • Improvements to analytics / backend tracking for devs

  • Added support to connect to server via query port (used by steam://connect URLs)
