Nuclear Missile Silo

Highlight of this month, a new monument goes live today. The Nuclear Missile Silo, along with being a unique, high tier loot opportunity, stands to be much more. At the moment, some key elements of this remain unknown. Below I summarize what you as a player should know.

Overview

As the name suggests, the Nuclear Missile Silo exists largely underground. It’s a high tier monument, so expect strong resistance from NPC scientists along with heavy radiation. Also, given the strict entrance and exit, it offers some unique challenges. Those struggles are worth it, however, as the loot is plentiful.

This is still a work in progress and everything below is subject to change.

Getting inside

First of all, the minimum requirements: Rad protection (Hazmat Suit), a blue card, and the means to kill 20+ scientist NPCs. As you approach, you’ll notice a large metal dome surrounded by some out-buildings, tanks, fencing, and a radio tower. There are around 4 blue scientists to deal with as you find the building with a blue swipe (the one closest to the tower).

Swipe the card, press the button, then run towards the metal dome. It’ll lift up over a period of 15 or 20 seconds then almost immediately start closing. Jump in quickly, as the closing lid will kill you. Then, start making your way down. There are 5 levels total (-1 through -5), which can be navigated via the main silo, stairs, and several elevators.

NVGM Scientists
Once you jump in, expect to be dealing with a new type of NPC: the NVGM Scientists. Sporting a cool new look with glowing night vision eyes, these guys have more health than the regular blue scientists you find at junkpiles (300hp), and they drop better loot too (more ammo, gun bodies, HQM, etc)!

Make sure to bring enough ammo, there are upwards of 23 of these new NPC’s lurking in the various nooks and crannies of this new maze of a monument.

Looting

As you snake your way down from the main shaft to level -1, watch out for NPC’s and you look for the elevator down to -2. Search every room for both wood and military crates - in total there are ~16 military and ~5 wood (subject to change).

Continue working your way all the way down to level -5 where you find a large room with nuclear warheads, a computer displaying a countdown timer (to wipe), a red keycard, and one elite crate. Once you’ve got that, you’ll want to start working your way out.

Getting out

Once you’ve nabbed all the loot, you can’t quite just get out the way you came in. Instead, exit that base room through the other way and work your way up to level -2. Look for the elevator opposite the admin office. Take that up one level where you will find a fire burning in the corner; clear out the scientists. Now, head up the stairs to the left until you hit the blue door. To open it, hit the button on the wall in the room to your left and you’re good to go (no swipes needed to get out).

Big bang…

And to address the nuclear warhead in the room, yes, this is related to a server wiping event. The team at Facepunch is hyping things up, but as of yet playing it close to the vest, so it’s unclear exactly how the wipe event will go down.

From the looks of things, server owners can set when the server will wipe which will show on the countdown on the laptop in the base room of the silo. It also looks like an F15 fighter jet will fly by and Bradley’s will start roaming the streets on the last day of wipe.

The big bang so to speak looks like it’ll be released at a later date. We’ll keep you posted as always.

Adobe building skin DLC

First of its kind, a new DLC is set to go live with the update. Unlike other DLC’s which unlock new items, this will unlock a whole new building skin: Adobe! It’s a skin of the stone building tier (so same behavior and stats) with an awesome new look and feel!

You can apply the building skin with your hammer as you’re building (once you’ve bought the DLC that is). Expect it to hit the item store soon.

Recoil balance

Helk has swooped in with some tweaks to recoil for the Thompson and MP5. Specifically, he’s increased the number of center-hits during extended burst fires for both weapons. He’s also adjusted the Thompson recoil to be slightly more predictable.

Flashbanging AI

Flashbangs are your new ally when it comes to clearing NPC-laden areas such as the new Nuclear Missile Silo. These AI characters will now respond to flashbangs by blocking their face and retreating, giving you an excellent opening to take them out.

Goodbye skin disable

With this update, the ability to turn off workshop skins has been disabled. Previously, many people chose to set the convar 'graphics.itemskins’ to false, turning off other players' skins to mitigate any potential benefits. This ability, however, is gone with this update, ensuring everyone will see the skins being worn.

Rust+ nerfs

Some nerfs incoming for the Rust+ app and specifically the camera functionality. With the update today, cameras in Rust+ won’t see players or their names from as far out. Also, it’ll only allow viewing cameras from Rust+ when not connected to the server. Finally, crate and explosion map markers are no longer sent to Rust+ and static CCTV cameras can no longer be viewed from Rust+.

Ammo world models

You’ll be seeing less burlap sacks when dropping certain ammo types post-update. World models have now been added for pistol and rifle ammo - now displaying some nice ammo boxes when dropped on the ground.
