Fishing
With the advent of a whole new underwater world on the way, the team has decided to put some effort into adding proper fishing into the game! This is a more than welcome addition, especially for those of us who have been looking at the non-functional fishing rod in the F1 items menu for years now.
Still in the beginning stages, we’re seeing commits on the fishing branch mainly related to initial animations, fish logic, and the catching process. It also appears some types of fish have been added for catching: the brown trout, sardine, herring, and even some rare catches will be available.
It’s not clear at the moment when this will make it in. It may wait until the submarine body of work goes live or it may sneak it’s way into the next update. Either way, we’ll keep you posted as more comes to light.
Submarine branch
Many of the commits this week are related to the submarine branch. In addition to underwater labs, 2 submarines, and sharks, the team has also revealed there will be harpoons and at least 2 types of torpedoes (long and short).
Overall, it’s looking like this new underwater world will feature new vehicles and loot opportunities along with PvE and PvP interactions. The commits this week have been full of work on various elements of this project including control panels for the submarines, torpedo progress, physics work, clipping tweaks, and various water related effects and functionalities.
When will all this hit the game, you ask? Well, it doesn’t look like it’ll be ready for the August update, so I’d say September at the earliest. That said, the team has been merging this work onto the old HDRP branch, which may be a sign that they’ll use that separate staging branch for an extended testing period. As always, we’ll let you know as more information becomes available.
Edit: It looks like this stuff may go live in August afterall! More info when we have it.
In case you missed here, here are some pictures we recieved late last week:
Voice Props DLC
Fixes and improvements on the Voice Props DLC branch continue this week. In the realm of fixes, deployed boom boxes no longer decay while playing and players can no longer pick up boom boxes in another players TC auth. Also, they’ve fixed a case where connected speakers would play audio even if they weren’t powered.
The team has also added a few more radio stations and completed more work on making sure multiple boom boxes will sync up. Not expected in a hotfix, these changes will likely go live with the August 5th update.
