The update is expected at normal time (2pm EST / 7pm GMT) and forces a map wipe on all servers. Our update stream goes live at 1pm EST to show off all the new features and answer questions. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Update Summary Video

Here’s the update summary video from Puddy:

Work Carts added

Highlight of the update, Work Carts have made their way in. Far greater than simply a new vehicle, this body of work includes an entire underground tunnel system, various entrance points around the map, new NPC’s, loot, and a slew of new gameplay possibilities.

Long story short: There are around 20 tunnel entrances added around the map - they look like small subway stations with an elevator shaft. Take the elevator down (or the stairs, but I don’t recommend it because that shit takes like 3 minutes to walk down). Follow a short corridor, kill some of the new Tunnel Dweller NPC’s, and you’ll find your way to one of the many tunnel platforms.

From there you can grab some loot, kill more Tunnel Dwellers, and most importantly, hop on a Work Cart with up to about 15 of your closest Rust friends. This vast tunnel system connects the major attractions of the Rust landscape, all easily accessible with a little low grade and your trusty Work Cart.

I wrote up a whole article on this new tunnel system and the work carts. For all the nitty gritty details, go check it out.

Slot Machines at Bandit

A new way to scratch that gambling itch has made its way in this month. Slot Machines have been added to Bandit Camp. Found in the same room as the roulette wheel, these 3 machines operate on scrap and offer some considerable payouts - if you’re lucky.

To get going, walk up to one of the machines, mount it, and deposit some scrap. At a cost of 2 scrap per spin, you can sit and try your odds all day and night - win up to 1500 scrap!

Slot Machines cannot be crafted and are only found at the exclusive Bandit Camp location.

Next round of Twitch drops

The next round of Twitch drops goes live today with the launch of the update (2pm EST). This week features a number of great Rust streamers, along with a popular wildcard or two. As of writing this the Facepunch Twitch page hasn’t updated to show all the offerings, but we expect a number of streamer specific drops, along with a couple generic Rust drops.

As always, make sure to head over to the Facepunch Twitch page to ensure your accounts are linked up. Also, this is the only Twitch drop expected this month as going forward Facepunch plans one per month. If you’d like a bunch more information on this round of drops, go check out the excellent post hutchison15 put together on /r/playrust.

Rust console beta started

Exciting times! The first private beta of Rust console edition is in progress! A small group of people were initially sent an invite on March 1st, with more being added by the day. There is really nothing else to report as all private beta testers are sworn to secrecy. That said, it’s really freaking cool to know that people are actually playing Rust on console at this very moment!

The beta is set to last till the end of the month. If you haven’t already, head over to the Rust Console page to sign up for your chance to join in on the fun.

Rad free substations

Those roadside substations you find around the map just got a bit more hospitable. Radiation has been completely removed from all of them.

Smoother horse riding

Galloping across the plains of Rust will be a little bit easier on the eyes this month as the motion effect, especially on rough terrain, has been smoothed out.

Drone delivery changes

Some tweaks this month to how Drone deliveries work. Specifically, the delivery fee is now per each purchase as opposed to per quantity. This means each time you click ‘Buy’ you’ll be charged just one delivery fee, regardless of the quantity specified. Quantities also now immediately reset to 0 after clicking buy.

Server browser tweaks

A couple of small changes have been made to the server browser to help improve results. By default, the browser list will now filter out empty servers, allowing more active servers to show up first. To the contrary, the favorites and history tab will now always show empty servers. Finally, the view of the tags has been improved a bit.

Misc fixes

There have also been a number of miscellaneous fixes to the game this month. Here are some highlights:

  • Allow small box placement under mixing table

  • Holding RF Transmitter no longer flags the player as hostile

  • Fixed XL neon signs blocking windows

  • Fixed fridge excessively large prevent building volume

  • Fixed heavily charged batteries displaying incorrect time remaining

  • Stricter large swimming pool volumes (exploit fix)

  • Fixed wind generator volume prevent building and deploy volume mismatches causing confusing behavior

Other stuff

Finally, some various other things of note:

  • Outpost should no longer spawn in the snow

  • Some networking and server side optimizations

  • Family sharing disabled for the foreseeable future

  • Added a loot panel name for some more scientist corpses

  • Added rottingflies.hide admin convar to disable flies vfx
