The update is expected to go live at the normal time (2pm EST / 7pm GMT) and will force a map wipe across the board (no forced BP wipe). Our update stream goes live at 1pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Update Summary Video

Here’s our update summary video from Puddy.

Charitable Rust 2020: over $202,000 raised!

I’m very happy to announce the final numbers for our charity event last year, Charitable Rust 2020, are in! The amazing Rust community raised $202,591.14 for Rise Above the Disorder, an organization which funds people getting the mental health care they need and deserve.

I am so grateful to this entire community for having such a profoundly positive impact on so many. An extra huge thank you to the team at Facepunch for their continued support of this event, without them such a large impact would not be possible.

Rust: Softcore game-mode

A new game-mode in Rust has arrived! The first officially supported game-mode since the inception of the game, Rust: Softcore provides a more forgiving environment for players to experience the game. Perfect timing for the huge new influx of players this year, Softcore makes the landscape of Rust a bit less harsh by limiting team and cupboard auth sizes along with allowing players to reclaim some of their lost loot on death.

This doesn’t impact vanilla gameplay at all. That said, if a server turns on Softcore mode, reclamation terminals are added to safe zones, each player gets the option to respawn at each safe zone, around half their loot on death is automatically saved (to a reclamation terminal or small stash next to body), and the size limits on teams and auth are added.

I released a full write up with everything you need to know about this new game-play mode earlier this week.

Drone delivery

Purchasing items from vendors around the map just became a whole lot more convenient. Taking a leap into the future of logistics, the devs have added a drone delivery system to the game!

Added to safe zones (Bandit and Outpost) around the map, drone terminals allow players to browse and purchase items from any publicly accessible vending machine on the map. Simply browse to the item you’d like, pay for it along with an additional scrap delivery fee - varies based on items ordered - and voila! A drone pops out of the terminal, takes off in the direction of the vending machine, and in a small amount of time, zooms back with your item in tow, then drops it in the receptacle in front of you!

While the delivery is in progress, you can pull up your map to see where the drone is currently at. To get your items, click in to the terminal again and drag them out. Don’t worry about people stealing them immediately either, as the monitor shows your name and will only respond to you for the first 5 minutes. Also, drones can’t be shot out of the sky at the moment, so you don’t need to worry about deliveries that don’t make it.

Twitch drops

The next round of Twitch drops starts today! This time featuring many of the household names of Rust, custom skins for each creator will be available after a certain amount of watch time on their individual stream. There are also likely to be several general skins available for drop by watching any Rust streamer. As always, make sure to head to the Facepunch Twitch page to hook up drops!

You can view the skins here:

Edit: The drops are now on the Facepunch Twitch page!

Edit 2: Fuck, I left out Sequisha’s hot dog!

Hapis changes

The first round of changes from the Hapis Rescue branch goes live today! If you’re not aware, Hapis is now the only officially supported static map in Rust. It was going to get axed, however, Petur swooped in and agreed to look after it. He plans on releasing at least two iterations in the near future, the first of which goes live today.

Although the main structure of the map is still the same, much has shifted with regards to road layouts, tunnels, and monuments. To get a sense of the shifts, you can compare the old vs. new map here (pardon the stitches):

The specific changes going live are a bit too vast to list every detail here. That said, here are some overall shifts we’ve noticed:

  • Significant improvements to the structure and layout of roads

  • A bunch of improvements / changes to monuments and how they fit into the terrain

  • New tunnels (some huge) connecting certain monuments (no building allowed)

  • Phone Booth network has been added

  • A ton of texture / procedural generation fixes

  • Recyclers have been added to both fishing villages (and large fishing village has moved a bit south)

  • Junkyard piles are hella radioactive now

  • Quarries are now labeled with their type on the map

  • Water Well and Outpost B3 are gone

Auto lock on deploy

Key locks will now auto lock when deployed on a door. This doesn’t affect code locks, but should help secure things quicker in certain situations.

Shop Front buff

Startup costs for the Rust small business owner have been lowered this month with the shifts to Shop Fronts. Not only has the cost been reduced (to 150 wood), but the Shop Front has been made a default blueprint.

New player loot bag

Dead players loot bags got an overhaul for this update. Gone is the prefab-looking low-poly death-bag of before, this puppy has fine details and stands out more than ever before!

Server tags

You’ll notice some changes when browsing the server list after the update. Mainly, tags have been implemented for each server allowing players to view more specific server properties on the fly (hover over a tag for even more details).

Find more about server tags here.

No more sleeping at puzzles

Your days of logging off at a puzzle expecting to come back later to some fresh loot are over with this update. Helk has made it so sleepers near puzzles get removed once the puzzle is reset.

Chinese New Year soon

In preparation for Chinese New Year, an Ox mask has been added to staging. This isn’t expected to go live today, however, it’ll likely become available for purchase on the item store next week.
