Update summary video

Here’s our update summary video from Puddy!

Horse Stables are in

The newest NPC monuments are here and they shift the way you’ll be galloping around the map. Stables provide a reliable way to get a horse in Rust. With 2 variations on each map - the Ranch and Large Barn - Stables house an NPC vendor and a variety of horses.

Unlike boat purchases at Fishing Villages, horses are not directly purchased through the vendor. Instead, you must buy a Saddle first from the stablemaster NPC (for 150 scrap) and then use it to claim the horse of your choice. Note: Saddles can not be researched or crafted, only purchased at a Stable.

Both Stables on the map provide the same basic thing: A NPC which sells Saddles, Horse Armor, and Horse Shoes along with a number of horses for you to claim. As expected, Stables are a safe zone, allowing you to claim your steed in peace.

With the advent of Stables, the amount of wild horses around the map has decreased.

Edit: It appears no horses are spawning in the wild anymore. It’s possible this will change.

Hello? This is telephone.

A new way to communicate in Rust is here! Telephones have been added to the game and they do just what you would expect: allow you to make and receive calls. There’s actually two types of phones in play, one that can be crafted and placed in your base, and public phones found in monuments and along the road.

Each phone has an 8 digit number used to receive calls. You can name the phones placed in your base which then adds them to a public directory. Finally, you can also add contacts to your phone, saving numbers for future use.

As you can imagine, a phone requires power to operate (1 to be exact). There’s also a passthrough socket which sends power if the phone is ringing or on an active call.

Taxis

The newest vehicle module is here and it provides lucrative employment opportunities for the Rust entrepreneur. The Taxi is a single socket, 2 seat module for vehicles. With protective glass all around, the Taxi module provides a bit of protection from the elements (I.E. bullets). Featuring a dropbox in the front, Taxi drivers are able to collect payment from passengers with ease.

Passengers causing problems? No worries! Drivers can simply kick the taxi occupants to the curb using the boot button located at the center top of the glass divider.

Vehicle balance

The Taxi module isn’t the only thing changing with vehicles. Along with it, a slew of balance changes have been implemented. Long and short, vehicles are now cheaper to own and operate. Here is a summary of what’s changed:

  • Reduced crafting cost of all car modules

  • Tier3 engine components are now researchable and craftable

  • Engine components no longer require HQM to craft

  • Reduced car lift crafting cost

  • Reduced lift power requirement (now 5)

  • Lowered scrap cost of vehicle parts from vendors

  • Slightly decrease engine power in all modular cars

  • There’s a new car parts loot box that drops a couple car parts and some scrap

For all the specifics on new crafting costs, check out our updated Modular Vehicles in Rust guide.

Destroyable Road Signs

There are some new looting opportunities as you drive around the map after this update. Signs along the road are not only destroyable now, they even produce loot when taken down. Once hit, simply hop out of the car and pick up your new Metal Pipe and Roadsigns. Make sure you gain enough speed before running into them otherwise you’ll just come to a halt. Or, you know, just chop them down like a tree.

Weather

Although it went live with the Halloween content, it’s worth mentioning the beautiful new weather effects that are in game. Some tweaks to weather going live today, most notably rain will now make you a bit less wet.

Movember Mustache

A new piece of attire has snuck its way in this month. The Movember Mustache offers the same protection as a bandana and looks like it’ll be available for purchase on the item store soon.

Edit: It’s now live on the item store!
