Rust Waterworld

No… not the Kevin Costner movie, but an entirely new way to traverse parts of the map. After several weeks of teasing and speculation, diving gear is coming soon! Currently the items cannot be crafted and it consists of four clothing items including a diving wetsuit, fins, a diving mask, and a makeshift oxygen tank. Movement is slowed in a manner similar to the heavy armor and currently they cannot be recycled. Map distribution of these bits of attire are not finalzed yet.

Our update preview stream goes live at 3pm EST. Follow @Rustafied for news throughout the day.

Diving Mask

Like the Heavy Plate Helmet, your vision is restricted, but this time it’s limited to the area of the lens within the diving mask. You can swim underwater without using them but the visibility is greatly improved when they are equipped. A pair of these might become a mainstay in roaming kits and boat travel as you can now easily find items and guns, in addition to stray heli crates.

Diving Wetsuit

The diving wetsuit is designed to keep you warm while diving into colder waters. It’s smooth and sexy and set to turn you into a sea mammal in no time!

Fins

Essential for quick diving and maneuverability while under water or treading the surface these puppies are where it’s at. They also make a satisfying flopping sound when walking.

Diving Tank

Of course you have to breathe while exploring the depths of Rust island! Rounding out out the ensemble is an diving tank. This thing has 300 seconds of oxygen, and can be refilled using a workbench. Each refill decreases the overall available time by 15 seconds. Use care when refilling these to maximize their useful lifetime!

CH47 Improvements

A few changes involving the CH47 are slated to arrive next week, notably the addition of a Site A drop point on the Hapis Island map.  The team has also made some overall improvements that should help the drop avoid rooftops and other things that render it useless.

Performance Tweaks

A number of AI fixes are coming in with next week's update, hopefully with the added benefit of higher, or at least more consistent server performance.

Other Stuff

  • Improved offshore junk pile spawns
  • Garry popped in and did some clothing and Steam changes
  • Pumping station has slightly larger building blocked area
  • Started expanding Scientists with more spawn control and mobility features
  • When reloading/firing a crossbow only the arrowhead is now visible, not the entire rig
