Halloween update summary video

Don’t like reading? Check out our Halloween update summary video from Puddy.

Note: This video was done prior to the Halloween update being complete, so it is missing some items. Those items have been added below.

Scarecrows!

Similar to the Murderer NPC’s from last year’s Halloween event, Scarecrow NPC’s now spawn around the map! Not only do they look cooler, they have more armor and better weapons then their predecessors. They also throw beancan grenades and pitchforks at you with great speed.

As far as loot is concerned, these NPC’s - upon being killed - drop similar items to that of a barrel along with a bunch of the new Halloween items listed below (including Halloween loot bags). You’ll still find a couple of Scientist NPC’s in your travels, but it appears most of them have been replaced (or killed) by these Scarecrows.

New items

A slew of new items have been added for this event. Many are default blueprints, however, some you’ll have to buy in the item store or find in loot around the map. Keep in mind, much of this still needs a balance pass, so expect some things to change.

Edit: Many of the items which were default blueprints yesterday are now only found in Scarecrow loot and Halloween Loot Bags. I’ve updated the post below accordingly.

Halloween Loot Bags

Dropped by the occasional Scarecrow, Halloween Loot Bags can be unwrapped and provide a variety of goodies. You’ll find anything from a couple grenades, shotgun shells, high quality metal, a double barrel shotgun, and a slew of other Halloween specific items.

Location
Scarecrow loot

Example Items
Double Barrel Shotgun
5 Shotgun Shells
15-23 High Quality Metal
3 F1 Grenades

Example Items (cont.)
Scarecrow Wrap
Wooden Cross
Gravestone
Small Candle Set
Large Candle Set
Barrel Costume

A Barrel Costume

Some new attire has arrived with this Halloween event. The Barrel Costume allows you to dress like - you guessed it - a barrel. Vision is limited while wearing (think Heavy Plate Helmet) but it’s great for hiding as you can crouch and look just like a barrel placed on the ground. This item is not a default blueprint, you’ll find it in Scarecrow loot.

Butcher Knife

Basically a clone of the Bone Knife, the Butcher Knife is a cheap weapon which is good for throwing and harvesting. You’ll find this item in Scarecrow loot.

Pitchfork

Similar to a spear, the Pitchfork has a long attack range and can be thrown at your enemies. You’ll find this item in Scarecrow loot.

Cursed Cauldron

Another spooky form of campfire has arrived. The Cursed Cauldron emits a green glow and some bubbling noises when lit. This is available for sale now on the item store for $3.99.

Small Candle Set

A cheap new source of light is here! The Small Candle Set doesn’t require any fuel to stay lit but will burn out and disappear after a period of burn time. They are found in Halloween Loot Bags.

Large Candle Set

Like the Small Candle Set, the Large Candle Set emits light with no source of fuel. These are also found in Halloween Loot Bags.

Sickle

A clone of the Metal Hatchet, the Sickle can be found in Scarecrow loot.

Graveyard Fence

You can now build your own graveyard with the trusty new Graveyard Fence. Not only can you demarcate where your dead are buried, these fences may come in handy during PvP. They stack to 10, can be deployed quickly, and allow you to shoot through the iron rods (most of the time).

These are not a default blueprint but you’ll find them on dead Scarecrows.

Fogger-3000

Another item which is not a default blueprint, the Fogger-3000 looks and behaves just like a fog machine you’d rent from a party supply store. Running on low grade fuel, it creates a good amount of smoke, can be turned on and off, and even has a motion detection mode.

This is available for sale now on the item store for $5.99.

Spooky Speaker

A new audio source, the Spooky Speaker emits random creepy sounds when on. No fuel or power required, but you can turn it off if you want a break from the maniacal laughs and what-not. This is available for sale now on the item store for $3.99.

Strobe Light

Warranting a new seizure warning when you load the game, a strobe light has been added. It is definitely bright, and will potentially bring out your most epileptic of emotions. Along with being able to turn it on and off, you can also adjust the speed. This is available for sale now on the item store for $5.99.

Note: Strobe’s can be turned off game wide in console using this command: “strobelight.forceoff 1"

Coffins

Found in Scarecrow loot, Coffins are basically are similar to a large wood storage, however, they can hold 42 items and cannot be locked.

Spiderwebs

Also found in Scarecrow loot, Spiderwebs can be placed on the roof of your base to add an extra level of spooky this Halloween.

Pickup-able resources

You’ll notice a change to the resources you can pick up off the ground with this update. Wood, stone, and ore pick ups are now spooky looking! You can even pick up bones!

Spooky sounds

The cherry on top of the spooky ambiance sundae occurs after the sun sets as several creepy ambient sounds have been added to night time.

New warning

When you open your game after the patch (or on staging today) you’ll notice a nifty new warning. Presumably to go along with the addition of the Strobe Light, you now seriously must watch out for seizures (seriously).
