Fixes, improvements, and more.

It’s a new week for Rust development and we’re seeing fixes, improvements, and progress on some ongoing projects. A small update will likely hit on Thursday as we appear to firmly be back in a weekly update cycle (nice!). This update will not force a wipe, however, some servers may choose to wipe anyway (including Rustafied main, dev, hapis, and savas). Let’s get into it...

Save fixes

We’ll hopefully see less surprise wipes after this update goes live. After several official servers unexpectedly wiped over the past week, Garry has fixed a condition where saves would get wiped if the server was shutdown improperly.

Shiny player fix

Newman's will no longer look like they’ve been rolling around in baby oil - Taylor committed a fix for the extra shiny player models.

Hapis unsuck

Petur is trucking along on an overhaul to the original non-procgen map, Hapis. He told me today the changes are going very well, and they should be launch ready by the next forced wipe (March, 3rd). Stay tuned over the next week or so for some before and after shots.

Dungeon art

Vince continues his work on adding textures and art to the various dungeons across the map. Like the Hapis overhaul, these changes won’t be live till the next forced wipe.

Unity 5.4

Garry has updated to the newest Unity beta, version 5.4. As with any updates to the underlying engine of the game, some tweaks and bug fixes may be required. That said, it appears this update features some performance boosts and graphical fixes. For specifics, check out the release notes.

Wet rocks

For some shiny new eye candy, Diogo has added wetness to the rocks near water. He’s also been working on some shader fixes required after the Unity 5.4 update.

Ragdoll fixes

You know that long, flesh colored line you see jetting out of dead bodies every now and again? Well you won’t be seeing it anymore as of Thursday; Andre has done a fix for ragdolls sometimes snapping the the world origin.
