New water, water catcher progress and bullet flybys

3:00pm EST - We are just one day away from the big update and the team has all hands on deck, working on completing functionality. Although some big new gathering items (water catchers, quarries, and oiljacks) are in the works, none of them are functional on the development branch yet. I plan on having full write ups of each new item once they are implemented and will show them in depth on tomorrow’s live update stream starting at 3pm EST. In the mean time, here’s some things the team is working on today...


New water

Diogo has merged in his water2 branch to main. This branch includes some significant changes to how water is rendered (main thing you'll notice, it's darker). I’m sure some changes are still needed, but here’s a couple shots of how it’s looking at the moment:


Water catchers

Although they still need some work, there has been significant progress on the water catchers. Garry has added the ability to drink straight from the catcher and has done the first iteration of the catcher loot panel:


Item information changes

The layout for the item information box on the inventory screen has shifted. Specifically, there is a new actions box for things like ‘drop’ and ‘ignite.’


Bullet flybys

Alex has done a first pass at bullet flyby sounds. I love how it sounds like fucking Star Wars when a bunch of bullets fly past your head. Here’s a quick video:


Player on fire animation

Minh has done a 3rd person animation for when a player is on fire. This is not yet on the dev branch, so no visual, but I’m going to laugh my ass off the first time I see a Newman running around in flames.


Quarries

Helk is still trucking along on the mining branch, however, nothing new is known at the moment because it still hasn’t been merged into main. Expect more on this tomorrow.
