Grass, weapon changes, exploit fixes, and animations.
10:00pm EST - Thank you to all who joined us at the first ever Rust rock concert tonight!
8:45pm EST - Guitar party happening now on our dev server!
7:50pm EST - Guitar party happening soon on our official development server. Make sure you're opted into the dev branch then look for us near the lighthouse near the middle of the map. Rough map here.
3:15pm EST - We are two days away from the big update and the team is dotting their eyes and crossing their T’s in preparation. With most of the main functionality for this update already in, focus is on small tweaks and bug fixes. Before we get into the specifics, let’s talk for a second about grass...
Grass
Over the weekend, Garry put a grass quality slider on the F2 menu. Turning it all the way down effectively turns off grass. Subsequently, people started bitching about how that gives unfair advantage, because snap traps can be seen easier and such. Today, Garry addressed the issue on Reddit.
Here’s the summary: This is temporary for testing purposes. In the future, turning the grass quality slider all the way down will still obscure the ground, probably even more than when the quality all they way up. So, everyone can put their pitchforks down and breathe easy, Garry’s got this shit covered.
Exploit fixes
Expanding on the exploit fixes from the other day, Garry has changed sleeping bags to use a new deployment system and restricted their placement further. Could this really mean the end of rock bases for good? We’ll see as the update goes live on Thursday but I’m pretty optimistic!
Clarification: This refers to building bases inside of rocks, not on top. People will still be able to build bases on top of rocks as of this update.
Assault rifle changes
Helk has has tweaked the assault rifle a bit, slowing down the rate of fire and increasing recoil slightly. I played with it a bit and the changes don’t seem too drastic. What was more noticeable, however, was the shift in zoom level...
Weapon zoom
Helk has also tweaked the zoom when looking down the sights of guns. On the Assault rifle and several other weapons, it is noticeably less. The bolt on the other hand, has been increased slightly. Here’s a preview:
Animation improvements
Minh has been rocking out a shitload of improved animations. Here’s a summary:
- Campfire crouching
- Sprinting with pistol and rock
- Turn in place tweaks
- Crouching with bow
Hammer fixes
Garry has made some improvements with the hammer. Along with showing impact effects when you hit objects, he’s fixed it not registering clicks if you hit your mouse buttons too quick. This is good news for people who like to upgrade quickly, my initial tests had it detecting each click, no matter how fast I went.
Barricade progress
We saw a couple barricade commits from Vincent today. The work is being done on a separate branch so we can’t see the progress yet, however, I’d expect to see these in game in the next couple of weeks (probably not this week though).
