An explosive update in our midst

5:15pm EST - The update is out, our servers have been updated.

4:40pm EST - Devblog is out! http://playrust.com/devblog-57/

4:20pm EST - Any time now...

1:30pm EST - The team continues committing fixes in preparation for the impending launch. Excited to see the progress on the improved terrain once the devblog comes out.

2:20am EST - This update sparks an explosion in creativity, raiding, and base building. Hand drawn signs, a Rocket Launcher, and two new types of stairs. Need I say more?

As usual, this update will probably drop sometime in the late afternoon / evening (4pm EST, 8pm GMT). No wipe will be forced (but our main server will wipe anyway). While we wait for it to go live, here's a rundown of what’s to come...

Hand drawn signs

A new era of artists has spawned with the advent of hand drawn signs. Gone are the days of plain text, signs are now a blank canvas for players to truly express themselves. Here’s a sampling of some of the talent already appearing on our dev server:

How to control the view while editing:

  • Hold right mouse to spin the sign around
  • Hold shift and right mouse to pan
  • Mouse wheel zooms

Rocket Launcher

Raiders have a new ally in the war against rock bases. Not only is this a game changer, it is incredibly fun to play with. Full details in my post yesterday. Here’s a short video from our rocket party on dev last night:

New stairs

There are now 2 new types of stairs: U shaped (same as legacy) and L shaped. The previous ramp stairs are also still in play. Since I’m on a video kick as of late, here’s a one of me running up these new stairs:

Other things

More progress was made it in this week; here’s some highlights:

  • No more invincible bushes
  • Improved clouds / horizon
  • New admin console give menu
  • Syringes can now revive wounded
  • Music now also plays while you load (ugh)
  • Barricades health is fixed and they are more susceptible to explosions
  • More progress on terrain improvements (won’t be live for another week or two though)

Rust in Photographs: Portrait of a Raid

While spectating a raid on our main server last night, I was inspired to start snapping pictures. This series highlights the faces behind one teams unsuccessful quest for loot.
