Stability, view distance, wipe reminder, and expansion!
3/28 @ 12:10pm EST - After a bunch of stability problems the past two days, an update this morning appears to have fixed many of the issues.
5:00pm EST - Our main official server just wiped. Find the new map here.
2:55pm EST - It is Friday and you all know what that means, bug fix time! The update yesterday included a lot of great additions to the game. Also, as with most updates, some new bugs were introduced. Thankfully, most of the issues have been resolved as of this point. Unfortunately, there is one issue still at play...
Stability
When the update went live yesterday, it quickly became clear stability was not working. Once people realized walls kept standing after foundations were destroyed, sky bridges quickly started appearing. This morning, Garry pushed a couple commits to fix stability, launching them in a server-side only update about 2 hours ago.
The good news is: Skybridges fell down after this update. That bad news is: building appears to be getting totally fucked after a certain amount of time. Basically, everything people try to build falls immediately and the server console spams stability timeout errors. This was just happening on our low pop server and, thankfully, a restart appears to have fixed it for the time being. I heard from Garry briefly about this and he told me, “things are gonna be different, stability wise, given the stuff I did. It’s a bit of a duct tape solution right now, but it’s identified the problem.”
So, long and short, the stability issues have been patched, however, building is still prone to getting completely fucked. If building stops working, a full server restart appears to be the only (temporary) fix.
Update: Building is breaking due to stability timeouts about every hour on our servers. Let's hope this get's fixed or it's going to be a long weekend for server owners. If you are a server owner and haven't updated your server today, I would wait, this latest server build is pretty fucked.
Update 2: As of Saturday, 3/28, the stability issues appear to be resolved.
View distance fixes
For the past week or so, monuments and rad towns haven’t been rendering from far away, only appearing when you’re very close to them. In addition, the airdrop cargo plane and crates went invisible after yesterday’s update. Garry has adjusted the render distance for all these items, so they will now be visible from much farther away. This change is currently only on the development branch, however, it will be live for all as of the next launch to main (and I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another hotfix released today).
Wipe reminder
Just a reminder: Our main 200 slot server will be wiping at 5pm EST today. The new map will be posted shortly after it wipes.
Expansion afoot!
I’m excited to announce we are expanding into a new game! Reign of Kings launched the other week and has received a ton of positive reviews. Subsequently, we’ve created a new site, ReignAsKing.com, to provide guides and news as it develops. Given the complexity of gameplay and lack of communication from the development team, we’re primarily focusing on the guides section at the moment. That said, we are attempting to create some ongoing lines of communication with the dev team so we can start providing more insight into the development progress.
3/28 Update: Just posted a new article about the Alpha 8 update.
