Coded lock progress and glitch protection

Sweet tower by Foodnipple!

9:52pm EST - Looks like we'll have a flashing light when the coded lock is armed. Sweet!

7:15pm EST - Another several commits from Garry just before. Looks like he's finishing some things up with the coded locks. It's getting a bit late over there so I wouldn't expect a client update tonight. Here's hoping we get one tomorrow, I can't wait to start using those new locks!

3:55pm EST - Garry just merged with trunk. This is a good sign because it means he's getting ready to merge all his changes into the main branch in preparation for launch. If that goes well, maybe we'll see a client update today.

2:22pm EST - The admin site has updated the graphic for the coded lock (see below). I've also updated some numbers on our building upgrade guide after a new video came out yesterday showing a level 6 wall being taken down with a stone hatchet in around 45 minutes.

The coded lock icon.

12:40pm EST - Garry is heads down on these coded locks again today. With 18 commits and counting, it appears he’s making some great progress. We have not seen a client update yet this week (last one was Saturday) but I'd expect one to come out as soon as these coded locks are ready. In the mean time, I want to discuss some base exploits and how you can protect against them.

Glitchers paradise

With any game in development, there are bound to be exploits and glitches. Unfortunately, we the players have to live with them until they are patched. Given the amount of conversation in our server about people losing their bases to these exploits, I wanted to discuss some building tips which will make it harder for people to glitch through your walls. I'm not going to go into how people are accomplishing these exploits, all you need to know is: If someone can build next to an exterior wall (ground level or above) of your base, they can glitch through the wall.

Here’s some tips for protecting against this:

  • Build foundations or foundation steps around the exterior of your base. They should not be attached to your existing foundations, instead, lay them catty-cornered around the outside.

  • If using foundations, make sure to put a railing on the side closest to your base.

  • If using foundation steps, make sure a triangle foundation cannot be placed on the steps. If it can, build it and put a railing on the side closest to your walls.

  • Once you've laid the exterior pieces out, run around and make sure you can't build anymore foundations, triangle foundations or foundation steps anywhere close to your exterior walls.

  • When placing these pieces outside your door, make sure it isn’t so close that it blocks your door from opening.

  • Upgrade the shit out of these exterior pieces to deter a potential glitcher from knocking them down to gain access to your walls.

  • If you have multiple stories to your base, I recommend putting platforms (floors) around the exterior of each level and then placing a railing on them close to your exterior wall.

  • Try to keep all your foundations low to the ground. If much of your foundation is exposed, be extra diligent with putting foundation steps in front of it.

This may not protect you 100% from these exploits, however, they hopefully will deter any would be glitchers from even trying. If you have any other tips for protection, please share them in the comments below.
